Chapter 3 - THE VIP CAGE

Twenty-four hours later, Lily was bathed, dressed in soft cashmere clothes, and staying in the top-floor penthouse suite of the Sterling Manor.
To anyone else, it looked like a fairytale transformation. Lily had her own bedroom larger than the entire railyard shack she used to call home. She had a mountain of plush toys, warm food served on silver platters, and doctors attending to her bandaged feet.
Yet, Lily had never felt more terrified.
Noah was resting in the adjacent room, still hooked up to heart monitors and oxygen tubes. Richard spent hours by his son's bedside, consumed by grief and fury, while his legal team worked frantically to track down Victoria, who had mysteriously vanished after paying off her initial arresting officers.
Late that evening, while the mansion was quiet, Lily tiptoed into Noah’s room.
"Noah?" she whispered softly.
The young boy slowly opened his eyes. He looked at Lily, his gaze instantly recognizing the girl who had screamed his name over and over while dragging him through the streets.
"Lily..." Noah gasped weakly, reaching out his trembling hand. "You... you didn't leave me."
"I told you I wouldn't," Lily smiled, sitting on the edge of his bed and wrapping her small fingers around his. "How are you feeling?"
"My chest hurts," Noah whispered. Then, his eyes narrowed with intense dread. He leaned closer to Lily. "Lily... you have to leave this house. Right now."
Lily blinked, confused. "What? Why? Your dad said I'm safe here."
"My dad doesn't know!" Noah stammered, his heart monitor starting to beep rapidly. "Victoria wasn't acting alone. The man behind her... he's in this house. Victoria called him 'Uncle'. He gave her the poison that triggered my asthma attack!"
Lily’s heart stopped. "Uncle?"
Richard only had one living brother—Arthur Sterling, the Chief Financial Officer of Sterling Global, who was currently downstairs in the study managing the company’s crisis response!
Suddenly, the door to Noah’s room creaked open.
A tall shadow stretched across the glossy hardwood floor. Standing in the doorway was Arthur Sterling, dressed in a sharp three-piece suit, holding a silver tray with two glasses of warm milk.
"Talking to our little hero, Noah?" Arthur asked, a smooth, terrifying smile stretching across his face. "You should be resting, nephew. And Lily... you drink your milk. You've had a long, exhausting few days."
Arthur stepped into the room, setting the glasses on the nightstand. But Lily noticed something sinister—the tiny tear in the corner of his paper napkin, and the faint white powder lingering near the rim of one of the glasses.

Arthur turned his gaze directly onto Lily, his eyes cold and lifeless as a snake's.
"You're a very smart girl, aren't you, Lily?" Arthur murmured, stepping closer until his shadow completely swallowed her. "Too smart for a homeless orphan. Tell me... what exactly did you see in the park before Noah fell?"
