Chapter 19 - The Silent Watchers

One year later, the world outside the estate had entirely forgotten the blood on the marble floor of the Bellrose Grand Hotel. To the public, Mateo Viscanti was simply a brilliant, reclusive billionaire philanthropist who funded city hospitals and modern maritime logistics, while his wife, Genevieve Viscanti, directed the most prestigious cultural foundation on the East Coast.

On a warm summer evening, sitting on the stone balcony of the east master suite, Genevieve rocked a newborn infant wrapped in a soft cashmere blanket.

Little Lorenzo Viscanti—named after a grandfather whose legacy had nearly destroyed them, but whose blood now represented a new beginning—slept peacefully against her chest.

Footsteps echoed softly on the balcony.

Mateo stepped outside, carrying two glasses of vintage scotch. He paused, looking down at his son with an expression of such fierce, protective tenderness that it still occasionally surprised Genevieve.

He knelt beside her chair, gently placing a kiss on the baby’s forehead, then rested his hand over Genevieve’s shoulder.

“He has your eyes,” Mateo whispered softly.

“Thank God,” Genevieve smiled, leaning her head against his shoulder. “He’s stubborn enough already without adding your scowl to the mix.”

Down below, on the manicured perimeter of the estate, security patrols moved with quiet efficiency. The world was vast, dangerous, and unpredictable. But inside this fortress, wrapped in the arms of the man who had claimed her in the middle of a warzone, Genevieve knew they were untouchable.
