Chapter 7 - The Nanny's True Face"Karen," Adrian breathed, his voice barely audible, carrying the terrifying chill of an approaching avalanche.

He didn't scream, he didn't curse; he simply drew his Beretta from his holster, pulled the slide back with a sharp metallic clack, and turned toward the stairs with the terrifying precision of an executioner.

"Wait!" I grabbed his arm, stopping him in his tracks.

Adrian looked down at my hand, his eyes blazing with fury. "Let go of me, Isabella. She killed my man to cover her tracks, and she tried to murder my daughter. She dies tonight."

"If you kill her now, you'll never find out who’s pulling her strings," I said urgently, staring straight into his dark, furious eyes. "Karen is a nanny, not a criminal mastermind. She doesn't have the connections to acquire medical-grade sedatives or orchestrate a syndicate-level hit. She's a pawn. If you shoot her, whoever is actually running this operation will go into hiding, and Emma will never be safe."

Adrian stood frozen for three long, agonizing seconds. The muscle in his jaw ticked violently as he wrestled with his raging instincts. Slowly, he lowered the barrel of the gun.

"Smart girl," a voice echoed from the end of the dark hallway.

We both spun around.

Standing at the entrance of the basement corridor, holding a sleek, silencer-fitted pistol pointed directly at Adrian’s chest, was Julian Vance.

Beside him, looking calm, collected, and entirely out of place in a mafia basement, stood Karen Mitchell.

"Julian," Adrian growled, slowly raising his weapon to face his greatest rival. "You have a lot of nerve stepping foot in my home."

"Home?" Julian laughed, a cold, mocking sound that bounced off the concrete walls. "Adrian, my old friend, you don't own this house anymore. You never really did. Karen here has been on my payroll for three years. Every financial ledger, every security code, every movement of your little princess—it all went through my desk first."

Karen smiled, stepping closer to Julian and resting her hand gently on his arm. The sweet, innocent nanny persona was entirely gone, replaced by a cold, calculating predator.

"You really thought you were untouchable, didn't you, Adrian?" Karen sneered. "Feeding your ego while your empire crumbled from the inside. I drugged Emma because Julian wanted to send you a message: the Valente dynasty ends with your bloodline."

My heart pounded against my ribs. I slowly stepped back into the shadows behind a concrete pillar, my hand sliding into the pocket of my blazer where Julian's burner phone rested.

"You touch my daughter, and I will rip every tooth from your skull," Adrian said, his voice terrifyingly calm as he aimed his Beretta straight between Julian's eyes.

"Go ahead and shoot me," Julian smiled, stepping slightly to the side. "But before your bullet hits my chest, Karen’s finger will press the remote detonator wired to the nursery upstairs."
