Chapter 8 - The Hammer FallsThe persistent ringing of the front doorbell reverberated through the quiet Beacon Hill townhouse like a church bell tolling for the doomed.

Thorne froze, his hand still hovering near his jacket pocket. He shot a sharp glance at his enforcer. "Go check the front monitor. Who's out there?"

The second enforcer hurried toward the hallway window overlooking the front steps, peering through the slats of the blinds. A second later, his face went pale.

"Boss," the enforcer muttered, his voice tightening with panic. "It's not the delivery service. It's federal marshals. Three cruisers. They're at the front door."

Thorne whipped his head back toward Graham, his eyes narrowing into furious slits. "You called them."

Graham stood tall behind his desk, a cold, triumphant smile finally breaking across his face. He took another slow sip of his bourbon. "I didn't have to, Thorne. Some deliveries make themselves."

Before Thorne could draw his weapon or lunge across the desk, the heavy front door downstairs echoed with a deafening crash as it was forced open. Heavy boots thundered across the marble foyer, accompanied by sharp, authoritative shouts.

“Federal Bureau of Investigation! Nobody move!”

“Secure the perimeter! Back exit covered!”

Thorne’s face drained of all color. He looked frantically toward the study door, but it was already too late. Heavy footsteps flooded the hallway outside, and a second later, the study doors burst wide open.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Harrison stepped into the room, flanked by two armed federal agents in tactical vests. In Harrison’s hand was a thick stack of printed documents and a glowing tablet. Behind the federal prosecutors stood a small, unexpected figure in a pink jacket—little Ruthie, holding her mother Renata’s hand, flanked by local Beacon Hill police officers.

"Marcus Thorne," Assistant U.S. Attorney Harrison announced loudly, holding up an arrest warrant. "You're under arrest for conspiracy, securities fraud, and aiding corporate espionage. Drop your weapon immediately."

Thorne stared at the federal agents, his career, his immunity, and Julian Vance’s grand empire collapsing around him in real time. Slowly, with trembling fingers, Thorne raised his hands in the air and let his jacket fall open. The enforcer beside him dropped to his knees, placing his hands behind his head.

As the federal agents swarmed the room, clicking handcuffs onto Thorne’s wrists, Graham walked slowly around his desk. He didn't look at the arrested men. His eyes bypassed the federal agents and locked onto the doorway, where Renata and Ruthie stood safely under the protection of the marshals.

Renata gave him a single, quiet nod—a subtle acknowledgment that the mission had been accomplished.

Harrison walked up to Graham, extending his hand. "Mr. Whitmore. We received the encrypted drive and the hard copies at the courthouse ten minutes ago. Outstanding work on the documentation. The SEC has already frozen Julian Vance’s offshore accounts. Your COO was picked up at his penthouse three minutes before we breached this house."

Graham shook the prosecutor’s hand firmly, his voice steady. "Thank you, Counsel. But the credit doesn't belong to me."

He walked past the agents, stepping out into the hallway, and headed straight down the stairs to his mother's bedroom.
