Chapter 8 - The Siege of Vale LogisticsTwo weeks later, the cold war between the Kwon and Vale empires exploded into the open.

Federal indictments, sudden IRS audits, and mysterious dockyard strikes hit Vale Logistics simultaneously. Elias had unleashed the full, terrifying might of his political connections and financial leverage, trying to choke Adrian’s operations and force us out of hiding.
We weren't staying in Minneapolis anymore. Adrian had moved us to a secure, heavily fortified estate overlooking the rugged cliffs of Door County, Wisconsin, surrounded by dense pine forests and frozen shoreline.
I stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows of the study, watching the snow fall over the lake, when the heavy oak doors swung open. Adrian walked in, looking exhausted, rolling up his shirtsleeves.
"They've frozen three more of our regional freight accounts," Adrian said, pouring himself a glass of whiskey. "Elias is burning his own capital just to hurt us. He’s liquidating assets at a loss. He’s completely unhinged."
"He knows we're close to filing the final paperwork to sever his parental rights and dissolve the marriage trust," I said, turning away from the window. "A Kwon doesn't lose control. The fact that he’s thrashing means he's desperate."
Suddenly, the estate’s security monitors beeped frantically.
On the main screen, three black SUVs crested the private snowy driveway, bypassing the security gates entirely by ramming straight through them. Armed men in tactical gear spilled out into the snow, fanatically securing the perimeter.
"They found us," Adrian muttered, his hand instantly dropping to the concealed firearm in his holster. "How the hell did they bypass our signal jammers?"

Before I could answer, heavy blows battered the front oak doors of the mansion. The reinforced wood splintered, and the locks gave way with a deafening crash.
Stepping through the shattered doorway, clad in a heavy black wool coat, his dark eyes burning with wild, desperate fury, was Elias Kwon.
