CHAPTER 3: THE WOMAN WHO SURVIVED THE GRAVE

Alejandro felt his entire body go numb.
For years, he had believed his mother was the strongest woman he knew.
A woman who built an empire.
A woman who protected the De la Vega name at any cost.
But standing inside that abandoned warehouse...
with his newborn son behind him...
he finally saw the truth.
Eugenia De la Vega wasn't protecting the family.
She was protecting herself.
“Where is Camila?” Alejandro repeated.
His voice was no longer filled with sadness.
It was filled with rage.
Eugenia slowly walked closer.
Her expensive shoes stepped over the dusty floor.
She looked completely calm.
Almost disappointed.
“As always, Alejandro, you are emotional.”
She shook her head.
“That was always your weakness.”
Alejandro stared at her.
“My wife disappeared.”
“My son was declared dead.”
“And you expect me to believe this was an accident?”
Eugenia smiled.
“A child doesn't understand the decisions adults have to make.”
“Don't talk to me like I'm a child.”
For the first time, Eugenia’s expression changed.
Anger flashed in her eyes.
Because she was no longer speaking to the obedient son she controlled.
She was facing a man who had finally opened his eyes.
“You have no idea what I sacrificed for this family.”
Alejandro laughed bitterly.
“Sacrifice?”
He pointed toward the baby.
“You tried to erase your own grandson.”
Eugenia looked at the child.
And for a second...
something strange appeared on her face.
Not love.
Not regret.
Fear.
“You don't understand what that child represents.”
Alejandro narrowed his eyes.
“What does that mean?”
But before Eugenia could answer...
a sound came from behind her.
Footsteps.
Slow.
Confident.
Mauricio entered the warehouse.
The same navy blue blazer.
The same cold smile.
The same scratches on his neck.
“Mother,” Mauricio said.
“You should have waited for me.”
Alejandro’s fists tightened.
“So both of you are involved.”
Mauricio smiled.
“Don't make this dramatic.”
“Dramatic?”
Alejandro stepped forward.
“You murdered my wife.”
Mauricio laughed.
A cruel, empty laugh.
“No.”
He looked at Eugenia.
“We saved this family.”
Alejandro stared at him in disbelief.
“You call murder saving?”
Mauricio walked closer.
“You never understood, Alejandro.”
“You were always too distracted.”
“Your wife.”
“Your feelings.”
“Your dreams of being a good husband and father.”
He leaned closer.
“You forgot what family means.”
Alejandro’s voice became cold.
“No.”
He looked at both of them.
“You forgot what humanity means.”
Behind Alejandro, Rosa held the baby tightly.
She whispered:
“Alejandro…”
He turned slightly.
“What?”
“We have to leave.”
But before they could move...
Eugenia spoke.
“You won't.”
Everyone froze.
She reached into her purse.
Not a weapon.
A document.
She threw it onto an old wooden table.
Alejandro picked it up.
His eyes moved across the page.
And slowly...
his face changed.
It was a legal document.
A custody agreement.
But the signature at the bottom...
was Camila’s.
Impossible.
“No…”
His voice cracked.
“She would never sign this.”
Eugenia smiled.
“She did.”
Alejandro looked at her.
“When?”
“The night before she died.”
His heart stopped.
Because Camila had never mentioned anything.
Never.
Not once.
“She wanted to give the baby to us.”
Alejandro looked at the paper again.
Something felt wrong.
Then he noticed something.
The signature.
Camila’s signature had a small detail.
She always drew a tiny line beneath the letter "C."
This signature didn't.
It was fake.
“You forged this.”
Eugenia's smile disappeared.
For the first time...
she looked nervous.
Alejandro held the paper up.
“Camila never signed like this.”
Mauricio’s expression changed.
Just slightly.
But Alejandro noticed.
“You didn't know that, did you?”
Silence.
Alejandro looked between them.
“You copied her signature.”
“You created a fake document.”
“And you planned to take my son.”
Rosa whispered:
“That's what Camila discovered.”
Alejandro looked at her.
Rosa continued:
“She found documents showing that your mother planned to use your son's birth to change ownership of the company.”
“She needed the child alive.”
“But she needed Camila gone.”
Everything suddenly connected.
The fake hospital report.
The missing birth certificate.
The funeral prepared before Alejandro returned.
The lie about the baby dying.
They didn't kill the child.
They needed him.
They needed the heir.
They needed control.
Then something happened that nobody expected.
The baby started crying.
A small cry.
A fragile sound.
But it changed everything.
Because Eugenia looked at the baby.
And whispered:
“Give him to me.”
Alejandro stepped back.
“Never.”
“You don't understand.”
“No.”
His eyes burned with anger.
“I understand perfectly.”
“You didn't see him as your grandson.”
“You saw him as a key.”
A key to the De la Vega empire.
A key to money.
A key to power.
Eugenia’s face hardened.
“You are making a mistake.”
Alejandro smiled coldly.
“The biggest mistake I ever made was trusting you.”
Suddenly...
Rosa’s phone rang.
Everyone turned.
She looked at the screen.
Her face became pale.
“What is it?” Alejandro asked.
Rosa didn't answer.
She slowly handed him the phone.
There was a video.
A security camera recording.
The date was five months earlier.
The night Camila supposedly died.
Alejandro pressed play.
The video showed Camila in the hospital hallway.
Walking.
Alive.
Holding her baby.
Then Mauricio appeared.
He grabbed her arm.
They argued.
Camila pushed him away.
And then...
someone else entered the room.
Someone Alejandro never expected.
Someone who made him drop the phone.
Because standing beside Mauricio...
was a person wearing a doctor’s coat.
A person who helped fake Camila’s death.
A person who had been trusted by everyone.
A person who knew the entire truth.
The video froze.
Alejandro looked up slowly.
“Who is that doctor?”
Rosa swallowed.
“I don't know if you’re ready to hear this.”
“Tell me.”
She looked at him with fear.
“The doctor who helped them…”
A pause.
“Was Camila’s own father.”
The warehouse became silent.
Alejandro felt his world collapse again.
Because if Camila’s father was involved...
then this conspiracy was much bigger than he imagined.
And the question that terrified him most was not:
Who killed Camila?
It was:
May you like
Why would her own father help bury his daughter alive?
