Chapter 8 - The Empire ReclaimedThree months later, the sun was shining brightly over the newly restored Sterling-Vance Estate—though the "Vance" part of the name had long since been permanently scrubbed from every deed, title, and registry in the country.

The sprawling neoclassical mansion had been entirely renovated, transformed into a fortress of security, peace, and unconditional love. Inside the grand nursery, Noah, Leo, and Lucas were now three months old, cooing happily as they stretched their tiny limbs in custom designer cribs embroidered with the Sterling crest.

I stood by the second-story balcony, looking out over the private coastline. The ocean breeze caught my hair, cool and refreshing. My body had fully healed, stronger and more resilient than it had ever been.

My father walked out onto the balcony, holding two cups of steaming espresso, and handed one to me. He smiled, looking down at the gardens below where security patrols smoothly monitored the perimeter.

"You know, Evelyn," my father said quietly, leaning against the stone railing. "When you told me five years ago that you wanted to marry a man who didn't know your last name, I thought you were making the biggest mistake of your life."

I took a sip of the espresso, smiling faintly. "I was making a mistake, Dad. But mistakes teach you who you really are."

"You didn't break when he tried to destroy you," my father said with visible pride in his eyes. "You waited, you watched, and you struck when the foundation was hollow. You’re a true Sterling."

"No," I replied, turning my gaze back toward the nursery where my three sons were laughing softly in their sleep. "I’m a mother. And no man, no lawyer, and no parasite will ever threaten my children again."

My phone buzzed on the glass table nearby. It was a notification from the federal prison system—a routine legal update confirming that Adrian’s final appeal had been summarily denied by the appellate court.

I didn't even bother to open it. I swiped the notification away, tossed the phone onto the table, and walked back inside to my boys.

The past was dead, buried under federal prison cells and forged deeds turned to dust. My future belonged to me, to my family, and to an empire that could never, ever be conquered.
