Chapter 4 - The Takeover Live

The grand ballroom of the Grand Hyatt was packed with hundreds of reporters, local politicians, and high-profile investors. Flashbulbs blazed against the massive backdrop featuring the logo of Vance Global Enterprises.
At the center of the stage stood Victoria Sterling, draped in a tailored white suit, smiling radiantly for the camera lenses.
"Today, Vance Global ushers in a new era for Chicago," Victoria announced smoothly into the microphone. "By clearing the dilapidated blighted zones on 4th Street, we will build the Sterling-Vance Tower—a beacon of modern progress."
She picked up a sleek gold pen, preparing to sign the official city acquisition documents resting on the glass podium.
BAM!
The heavy double doors at the back of the ballroom slammed open, echoing through the auditorium like a gunshot. The room went dead silent. Cameras pivoted instantly.
I walked down the central aisle, flanked by four armed police escorts. In my right arm, I carried five-year-old Lauren, still wearing her faded pink dress and dirty sandals. In my left hand, I held the yellowed legal deed.
Victoria’s bright smile instantly shattered into a mask of pure terror, though she quickly recovered, forcing a laugh into the microphone. "Arthur? Darling, you're late for our presentation. What is the meaning of this theatrical entry?"
"The presentation is over, Victoria," my voice boomed through the sound system as I reached the stage. I stepped up to the podium, setting Lauren gently onto the mahogany table next to the microphone.
The press went wild, flashbulbs exploding in a chaotic rhythm.
"Arthur, stop this madness!" Victoria hissed under her breath, stepping away from her microphone. "You are ruining the IPO! Security, remove him!"
None of the security guards moved; my police escort blocked them immediately.
I grabbed the microphone, looking directly into the camera lenses broadcast live to millions of viewers. "For five years, I thought success meant building concrete towers and acquiring wealth. Today, I found out my company has been committing land fraud, bribing city officials, and throwing innocent children into the freezing street."
Gasps erupted across the room.
"This is Lauren Fitzgerald," I said, laying a gentle hand on my daughter's shoulder. "She is the daughter of Mary Grace Fitzgerald—the true, undisputed owner of the 4th Street land. And she is my daughter."
Victoria went completely pale, her knuckles turning white as she gripped the edge of the stage. "He's lost his mind! He's suffering a mental breakdown! Turn off the broadcast!"
"I have the original, certified 1920 deed right here," I declared, holding the document high into the air. "And I have forensically audited accounting records proving that Victoria Sterling embezzled forty million dollars from Vance Global to fund hitmen and bribe the housing authority to silence Mary Fitzgerald!"
Before Victoria could sprint toward the side exit, two federal agents in dark suits stepped out from behind the velvet curtains, holding up federal arrest warrants.

"Victoria Sterling," the lead agent barked. "You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder, attempted homicide, and corporate fraud."
As the handcuffs clicked around her wrists, Victoria spun toward me, eyes wide with unhinged fury. "You think you've won, Arthur?!" she screamed as she was dragged away. "Check your phone! You're already too late!"
