Chapter 9 - The Resonance Collapse"Stop her! Stop her now!" Khalid shrieked, lunging forward to grab my collar.

Before his fingers could touch my jacket, the floor beneath us violently heaved. A deep, subterranean roar—like the groaning of tectonic plates shifting after centuries of lock—rippled through the cavern.

Dust, pebbles, and chunks of ancient sandstone rained down from the cavern ceiling as the emergency generators flickered and died, plunging the excavation site into a chaotic mix of flashing red emergency strobes and blinding blue energy pulses shooting from the vault door.

The mercenaries dropped their rifles, panicking as the ground rolled beneath their boots like waves on an ocean.

"You absolute fool!" Khalid screamed over the deafening roar, trying to punch the override codes into his satellite tablet. "You're burying us both!"

"I'm not burying us, Khalid," I shouted back, holding my ground against the tremor as the ancient script on the bronze door glowed with blinding intensity. "I'm locking the door your greed was never meant to open!"

With one final, earth-shattering crack, the massive bronze doors slammed shut under their own acoustic weight, sealing the subterranean archive forever beneath millions of tons of desert rock.

The shockwave knocked Khalid off his feet, sending him crashing hard into a stack of metal supply crates.

Above us, the winch systems of the excavation cranes began to snap under the tectonic stress.

"Get to the surface! Now!" I yelled, turning and sprinting up the steep stone staircase as the lower levels of the dig site began to cave in behind us in a thunderous avalanche of dust and debris.
