Chapter 10 - The Legend Lives OnOn the internet, however, the legend of the Pot Roast Bandit never truly died.

Every Tuesday at precisely 6:00 PM, a new viral meme would circulate across social media. Sometimes it was a photo of Brutus wearing a tiny detective hat. Sometimes it was a sponsored campaign ad for Mila’s foundation, featuring a cartoon drawing of a Cane Corso carrying a slow cooker like a crown jewel.

Mila sat at her new, gleaming desk at the foundation headquarters, reviewing the latest batch of nationwide applications for nurse support grants. Her phone buzzed on the mahogany wood.

It was a notification from TikTok.

A video posted by a random neighbor three streets over showed a large, sleek black dog casually trotting across a lawn with a foil-wrapped package in its jaws. The caption read: "He’s retired, but his legacy lives on. Watch out, neighborhood, the underbosses are training."

Mila stared at the screen, shook her head, and smiled.

The office door swung open, and Victor walked in, holding two cups of artisanal coffee, followed closely by a very heavy-footed, tail-wagging Brutus.

"Ready for our afternoon inspection, Don?" Mila asked, raising an eyebrow.

Victor placed the coffee on her desk, winked, and looked down at the massive dog, who let out a happy, booming woof.

"Inspection approved," Victor said.

Mila leaned back in her leather chair, took a sip of her coffee, and realized that sometimes, the absolute worst day of your life—and a thieving mafia dog—can turn out to be the exact beginning of everything you ever needed.
