Chapter 2 - THE TRACKING CHIPDante held out his hand, keeping a respectful distance, letting the choice entirely be mine.

Julian leaned close to my ear, his breath hot and venomous, whispering threats against my sick younger brother, my father, and what was left of my career if I dared to move an inch. I was shaking so violently that the diamonds on my bracelet chimed like broken glass.

Still, with a sudden surge of defiance, I pulled my arm away from Julian and placed my hand in Dante’s.

He didn't take me to a reception. He took me straight to the city’s top private medical center.

There, we found my brother, Miles, safely resting in a high-security cardiac wing, completely shielded by a phalanx of Romano’s elite guards. Once we were safe in the private suite, Dante reached out and gently unclasped the heavy diamond necklace Julian had forced me to wear.

Using a pocketknife, he pried open the ornate central clasp.

Hidden neatly inside the metal setting was a micro-tracking chip, blinking a tiny, steady red light.

That was the moment the terrifying truth snapped into focus. The wedding had never been about love or social standing. Julian had planned to monitor me like a piece of stolen property. My father had used Miles’s failing heart as emotional leverage to keep me obedient. And Dante... Dante had known far more about my family's debts and traps than I ever had.
