Chapter 3 - The Frozen FortuneThe word gone hung in the air like a physical blow.

Natalie froze, her mouth slightly open, the fake tears drying instantly on her cheeks. "What... what do you mean, gone?" she whispered, her voice trembling with a raw, sudden panic that she couldn't fake.

"I mean exactly what I said," I replied, stepping away from the podium and walking slowly down the steps toward the floor, my heels clicking sharply against the marble. "Two hours ago, while you were busy telling guests that I needed to be locked away in a psychiatric facility, I called Marcus. The wire transfer has been permanently canceled. Not delayed. Canceled."

Jackson stared at me, his eyes wide with horror, not for me, not for my shaved head, but for the vanish of a fortune he had already spent in his mind. "You can't do that," he breathed, shaking his head in denial. "You promised! That trust was for our future!"

"That trust was for a son who loved and respected his family," I corrected, stopping just a few feet away from them. "Not a man wrapped around the finger of a gold-digging parasite who cuts my dresses and shaves my head while I sleep."

"You lying bitch!" Natalie snapped, dropping the sweet, innocent act entirely. The mask slipped, revealing the vicious, calculating opportunist underneath. She lunged forward, her nails clawing toward my face, screaming, "You ruined everything! You old hag, you ruined everything!"

Before she could reach me, two security guards—hired discreetly by my sister Judith an hour earlier—stepped out from the shadows and pinned Natalie's arms to her sides. She thrashed and shrieked like a wild animal, her white wedding dress rustling violently as she cursed me with every vile name in the book.

The ballroom erupted into absolute chaos. Guests stood up from their tables, whispering, recording on their phones, scrambling away from the wreckage of the most expensive disaster society had ever witnessed.

Jackson stood frozen in the center of it all, looking back and forth between his screaming bride and his mother, finally realizing the terrifying magnitude of what he had chosen to ignore.
