Chapter 5 - THE CONFRONTATION AT THE TABLEEthan finally broke. He sank back into his chair, knocking his water glass over and sending a small flood across the white tablecloth.

"Why... why didn't you just talk to me?" Ethan whispered, tears of pure humiliation spilling over his eyelids. "If you wanted a divorce, if you wanted money—we could have handled this privately! You didn't have to ruin my career in front of every senior officer in the command!"

I looked at him with absolute, freezing indifference.

"Privately?" I repeated softly. "Like how you handled our marriage while sleeping with your corporate partner? Like how you treated me like a beggar in my own home, convincing everyone I was a useless freeloader who couldn't survive without your charity?"

I stood up, adjusting the cuffs of my black dress.

"You didn't just steal government funds, Ethan. You stole six years of my life, using my silence to fuel your ambition while you and your mother systematically tried to erase who I am."

General Hale stepped closer to me, snapping another crisp, respectful salute. "Commander Mitchell, the federal marshals are securing the vehicle fleet and the bank accounts. All assets linked to the shell companies have been frozen as of 2000 hours."

"Thank you, General," I replied, returning the salute with effortless military precision. "Let's conclude the transfer."
