Chapter 4 - The Corporate CoupAdrian stood up instantly, stepping between us and his cousin. His body went rigid, every muscle tense. "What are you doing here, Marcus? This is a private residence. Get out."

Marcus laughed, a sharp, arrogant sound that grated against the quiet of the library. "Private residence? Not anymore, Adrian. With Vanessa arrested for federal child trafficking and human rights violations, the moral clause in the Whitmore Foundation charter triggers an immediate emergency leadership review."

He pulled a thick leather-bound folio from beneath his arm and tossed it onto the mahogany table, right next to the two halves of our silver heart.

"As of twenty minutes ago, the board of directors convened an emergency digital session," Marcus continued, his eyes gleaming with malicious triumph. "With seventy-four percent of the voting shares—backed by Vanessa’s silent proxy holdings which she legally transferred to me yesterday morning in exchange for her escape fund—I am now the controlling CEO of Whitmore Dynamics."

Adrian’s face drained of color. "She signed over her shares to you? That treacherous bitch."

"Call her whatever you like, cousin, but she saved her own skin while you were playing domestic hero," Marcus sneered. He shifted his gaze toward me, his eyes scanning my burgundy jacket and tired posture with undisguised contempt. "And who is this? Ah, the little hired help who decided to play detective. Tell me, nanny-turned-kidnapper, how does it feel to know you walked right into a trap?"

My heart skipped a beat. "What are you talking about?"

"Do you really think Vanessa acted alone three years ago?" Marcus smiled, stepping closer, savoring every second of our shock. "Vanessa wanted a baby to trap Adrian, yes. But who do you think provided the corrupt hospital contact? Who do you think cleared the security logs? Who do you think set up the entire adoption broker network?"

Adrian took a violent step forward, grabbing Marcus by the lapels of his suit. "You? You helped her steal a child?!"

"I helped her secure an heir so you would be distracted by domestic bliss while I quietly bought out our shipping divisions overseas!" Marcus spat, shoving Adrian back with surprising force. His bodyguards immediately unholstered their tasers, the yellow warning lights blinking in the dim library light. "And now, cousin, you are legally incompetent, morally compromised, and completely ruined."

Marcus pulled a legal document from his folder and waved it in the air.

"This is a permanent restraining order and custody surrender agreement. Adrian signs away his corporate voting rights and personal estate assets. And you, Ms. Scott—or Claire Bennett, or whatever your alias is—sign away all parental claims to the child, accepting a handsome severance package of five million dollars to disappear forever."

Marcus leaned down, his face inches from mine.

"Refuse, and I’ll ensure the federal marshals charge you not as a victim, but as a co-conspirator in the original hospital kidnapping. I have fabricated digital trails that will put you both behind bars for the rest of your lives."

Noah stirred on the sofa, whimpering softly in his sleep, sensing the danger in the room. I gently stroked his hair, my mind racing at a thousand miles an hour. The trap was airtight. Marcus held the board, the police contacts, and the fabricated evidence.

Adrian looked at me, despair clouding his dark eyes. "Anna... I'm so sorry. I brought this monster into our lives."

Marcus laughed loudly, raising a pen to hand to us. "Sign the papers, kids. You've already lost."
