Chapter 3 - THE VAUGHN ENTERPRISES CRASHBy midnight, the notification alerts began to ping on Russell’s tablet. One by one, the stocks for Vaughn Enterprises began to plummet. It wasn't a slow decline; it was a vertical drop. Contracts were being canceled. Offshore accounts were being frozen by a private equity firm that Russell hadn't even known existed—a subsidiary of the Walton Group.

Russell burst into the basement, his face pale, his tablet shaking. "What did you do? My accounts—they’re being liquidated!"

I smiled, rocking Phoebe in my arms. "You thought I was your quiet little wife, Russell. You thought I gave up my life for you. I didn't give up my life; I simply paused it. And now? It’s back on."
