Chapter 4 - The Federal SiegeA squad of federal marshals in dark tactical vests poured into the ballroom, their boots striking the marble in a synchronized, thunderous rhythm. At their head was a tall woman in a sharp charcoal suit—Special Agent in Charge Elena Vance of the FBI’s White-Collar Crime Division.

She didn't draw a weapon, but her presence brought an immediate, chilling authority to the chaos.
"Victoria Sterling, Arthur Sterling, and Liam Sterling," Agent Vance called out, pulling a sheaf of formal warrants from her leather folio. "You are being placed under federal arrest for securities fraud, conspiracy, extortion, and obstruction of justice. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law."
The flashbulbs reached a fever pitch. The room was a blinding storm of white light. Socialites began scrambling toward the exits, only to find the exterior doors blocked by additional federal units. The Sterling Estate had become a fortress—not of wealth, but of incarceration.
Victoria froze mid-lunge, her manicured fingers hovering inches from Arthur’s chest. Slowly, agonizingly, she lowered her arms. Her face twisted into a mask of pure, unadulterated venom as she looked around the room at the hundred-plus billionaires who had spent the last decade kissing her ring.
Not a single person met her eye. Wall Street titans, tech moguls, and media moguls were already furiously typing on their encrypted smartphones, liquidating their Sterling Holdings stock before the market opened in Tokyo.
"You think this is checkmate?" Victoria whispered, her voice trembling with manic fury as federal agents stepped up beside her and snapped cold titanium handcuffs around her wrists. "The Sterling empire isn't just a bank account, Agent Vance. It’s the infrastructure of this country. If we fall, the entire American economy goes down with us. The government won't let us burn."
"The government," Agent Vance replied evenly, clicking the second cuff onto Victoria’s right wrist, "just seized every primary server, offshore trust, and holding company asset linked to the Sterling Group under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act. The economy will survive. You won't."
Liam didn't resist as two marshals grabbed his arms. His gaze remained locked on Avery, who stood unmoving amidst the wreckage of white orchids and broken crystal.
"Avery," Liam choked out, tears finally breaking free, spilling down his expensive, hollow cheeks. "Please. Think of Leo. He’s one month old. He needs his father. We can fix this. We can give back the money, we can walk away—just tell them it’s a misunderstanding!"
Avery walked slowly toward him. She stopped just inches away, looking up into the face of the man who had stolen her life, her family, and her dignity under the guise of a fairy-tale romance.

"Leo doesn't need a father who trades his wife's family for a trust fund," Avery said, her voice steady, cold, and absolute. "And he certainly doesn't need a Sterling."
She reached up, her fingers gently brushing against Liam’s left hand. With a sharp, deliberate motion, she slid her three-carat platinum diamond wedding band off her finger. She didn't drop it into his hand. She let it fall to the floor, where it rolled across the marble and disappeared beneath the ruined remains of the floral display.
