CHAPTER 4: “THE SECRET THAT COULD DESTROY THE FERRER EMPIRE”

Alejandro Ferrer stared at the document on his phone.

His hands were shaking.

Not because he was afraid.

Because he was confused.

The signature at the bottom was impossible.

A signature he knew better than anyone.

A signature that belonged to the one person who had shaped his entire life.

His father.

Eduardo Ferrer.

But Eduardo had been dead for three years.

—This can’t be real… —Alejandro whispered.

He zoomed in.

The date.

The company stamp.

The legal approval.

Everything looked authentic.

A transaction worth millions of dollars.

A company called:

Mendoza Global Supplies.

Alejandro had never heard of it.

But one thing immediately caught his attention.

The owner’s name.

Teresa Mendoza.

For a moment, Alejandro couldn’t breathe.

Teresa?

The same woman who cleaned his house?

The same woman Renata had humiliated?

The same woman everyone ignored?

Why was her name connected to a business transaction signed by his father?

There had to be an explanation.

There had to be something he didn’t know.

Meanwhile, inside the mansion…

Renata sat in her bedroom.

Unlike before, she wasn’t smiling.

She was angry.

Very angry.

Because for the first time, something had gone wrong.

Alejandro was supposed to be easy to control.

Kind men always were.

She had studied him.

She knew his weaknesses.

His guilt.

His need to protect people.

His belief that everyone deserved a second chance.

But she had underestimated one thing.

His ability to discover the truth.

She picked up her phone.

And called someone.

—He found the cameras.

Silence.

Then a deep voice answered.

—Then it’s time to accelerate the plan.

Renata looked toward the mansion window.

—What about Teresa?

The voice replied:

—She cannot be allowed to talk.

Renata’s expression became cold.

—And the child?

A pause.

Then:

—Especially the child.

The next morning, Teresa noticed something strange.

The atmosphere in the mansion had changed.

Employees whispered when she walked by.

People looked at her differently.

Not with pity.

With fear.

She found Mariela near the laundry room.

The older woman immediately looked away.

Teresa knew something was wrong.

—Mariela…

The woman stopped.

—What?

Teresa lowered her voice.

—You know something, don’t you?

Mariela’s eyes filled with tears.

For a few seconds, she looked like she wanted to confess everything.

But then fear returned.

—Teresa…

—Leave this house.

Teresa froze.

—What?

Mariela grabbed her hand.

Her voice trembled.

—Take Camila and leave before it’s too late.

Teresa pulled away.

—Why are you saying that?

Mariela looked around.

Making sure nobody was listening.

Then she whispered:

—Because Renata is not afraid of losing money.

A pause.

—She is afraid of losing everything she knows.

Before Teresa could ask more…

A loud crash came from the hallway.

Everyone ran toward the sound.

A vase had fallen.

But that wasn’t what caught their attention.

It was the envelope lying on the floor.

An envelope addressed to:

ALEJANDRO FERRER.

No sender.

No explanation.

Alejandro opened it.

Inside was an old photograph.

A photograph of his father.

Standing beside a woman.

A woman Alejandro immediately recognized.

Teresa’s mother.

His heart stopped.

Teresa’s mother had died almost ten years ago.

She was a woman Alejandro barely remembered.

A woman who had worked for his father before disappearing from their lives.

But behind the photo was a handwritten note:

“Your father knew the truth. He tried to protect her. You must finish what he started.”

Alejandro looked at Teresa.

She looked just as shocked.

—You knew my father? —he asked.

Teresa shook her head.

—I never met him.

But then she remembered something.

Something her mother told her when she was little.

A story she thought was just a memory.

—My mother used to say…

Teresa swallowed.

—That a powerful man promised to protect us.

Alejandro stepped closer.

—Who?

Teresa looked at him.

Her voice became quiet.

—She never told me his name.

Suddenly, the mansion’s alarm system activated.

Everyone froze.

The security manager rushed in.

—Mr. Ferrer!

Alejandro turned.

—What happened?

The man looked nervous.

—Someone accessed the company’s private files.

Alejandro’s face changed.

—Who?

The manager hesitated.

—The access code belonged to…

He looked at Teresa.

Everyone followed his gaze.

—Teresa Mendoza.

Silence.

The room became painfully quiet.

Teresa stepped back.

—No.

Her voice cracked.

—I didn’t do anything.

Renata appeared at the top of the stairs.

Watching.

Smiling.

Alejandro looked at her.

And immediately understood.

This was her move.

She wanted Teresa blamed.

Exactly like before.

But this time…

Something was different.

Because Alejandro had seen the truth.

And he knew one thing.

Teresa was not a criminal.

She was a victim.

That night, Alejandro secretly investigated the access records.

The result shocked him.

The system had been manipulated.

Someone had copied Teresa’s identity.

Someone who knew exactly how the Ferrer company worked.

Someone with access to private information.

Someone close.

Very close.

Then Alejandro found the hidden file.

A file created eleven years ago.

Before Teresa ever worked in his mansion.

Before Renata ever appeared.

Before everything began.

The title of the file was:

“THE CHILD OF THE FERRER FAMILY.”

Alejandro opened it.

And what he saw made him drop the laptop.

Because inside were hospital records.

A birth certificate.

And a DNA report.

A report proving that the little girl everyone ignored…

The little girl Renata tried to humiliate…

Had a connection to the Ferrer family.

A connection nobody knew.

Not even Teresa.

Alejandro ran to the service area.

Camila was sleeping peacefully.

Holding her stuffed rabbit.

He looked at the child.

His eyes filled with shock.

Because suddenly everything made sense.

Why Renata hated her.

Why she wanted Teresa gone.

Why she was desperate to control the company.

Camila wasn’t just a child of an employee.

She was the missing piece of Eduardo Ferrer’s final secret.

But before Alejandro could reveal the truth…

The mansion lights suddenly went out.

A scream echoed through the hallway.

Teresa ran toward Camila’s room.

The door was open.

The bed was empty.

The stuffed rabbit was lying on the floor.

And on the pillow…

There was a note.

Three words.

Written in red ink.

“You were warned.”

May you like
