Chapter 6 - THE FALL OF AN EMPIREThe arrest of Julian Vance sent shockwaves through global financial markets. Within hours, trading of Blackwell Industries stock was temporarily halted as federal marshals seized servers, raided executive suites, and froze the personal assets of everyone involved in the cover-up.

Julian was dragged out of the building in handcuffs, his expensive suit rumpled, screaming threats that fell on deaf ears.

John stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows of his office, watching the snow begin to fall over Central Park as twilight settled across the city.

The empire he had spent forty years building was bruised, battered, and facing massive restructuring. Billions in market value had vanished. Lawsuits would drag on for years.

Yet, for the first time in his life, John felt light.

The heavy, suffocating guilt of grief had been replaced by a singular, burning purpose: to honor Helen’s memory by making right everything her sacrifice had exposed.

A soft knock sounded at the office door.

John turned. Sophie stood in the doorway, holding a small paper bag containing the remainder of the medicine she had needed for her mother, her Helen-blue eyes looking up at him with quiet hesitation.

"Mr. Blackwell?" she asked softly. "Is everything okay?"

John walked over, kneeling down to her level, just as he had done on Fifth Avenue twenty-four hours earlier.

"Everything is going to be alright, Sophie," John said, a gentle, genuine smile touching his lips. "Because of you, and because of Helen, the truth finally won."

He stood up, taking her hand. "Come on. Let’s go check on your mother. And then... let’s make sure you never have to worry about the cold again."
