Chapter 9 - The Final LedgerIn the penthouse suite of the Voss Global Tower—the very room where Damian had once lorded over his imaginary kingdom—the evening light poured through the pristine glass panes, casting long, elegant shadows across the polished hardwood floor.

Elena stood by the window, holding a single sheet of heavy cream paper.

It was an internal audit report from the compliance division.

Vance Enterprises: Status - Fully Dissolved. All assets successfully integrated. No residual liabilities.

Arthur Sterling stepped into the room, holding two crystal glasses of sparkling water. He handed one to Elena, offering a small, appreciative smile.

"The board is planning a gala next month in Geneva to celebrate the official global rollout," Arthur said, taking a sip from his glass. "They want you to give the opening toast. The theme is 'The New Era of Transparency.'"

Elena looked down at the glass in her hand, watching the tiny bubbles rise to the surface before dissolving into the clear liquid.

"Transparency is a good start, Arthur," she said quietly. "But vigilance is better."

She walked over to the mahogany desk—the same desk where Damian had once signed dismissal notices without looking people in the eye—and placed the audit report neatly in the center drawer.

She didn't feel triumphant. She didn't feel vindicated.

She felt light.

Like a program that had finally finished running a long, complicated compilation, clearing out all the corrupted sectors and obsolete cache files to make room for something entirely new.

"What about Vance?" Arthur asked casually, as if mentioning a glitch that had long since been patched out of the system. "Word is he and that woman are working shifts at a 24-hour diner down on the west side just to pay rent on a room above a laundromat."

Elena paused for a fraction of a second. She didn't turn around.

She simply adjusted the cuff of her jacket, her eyes reflecting the endless, glittering expanse of the city lights outside.

"Let them work," Elena said softly. "The market has a way of teaching everyone their true value."
