Chapter 7 - The UnravellingVictoria slowly reached out, her manicured fingers trembling as she broke the red wax seal and pulled out the thick cream-colored pages inside.

The first page was a certified legal notice from Vance Shipping’s own internal audit committee, detailing how Arthur had illegally funneled corporate funds through Victoria’s personal accounts to evade federal taxes—making her an active, co-conspiring participant in his felony fraud. The second page was a signed prenuptial disclosure that Arthur had hidden from her, proving he had legally laid claim to half of Vance Shipping’s subsidiary assets the moment they signed their marriage license.
Victoria’s jaw dropped. She stared at the papers, then looked up at Arthur with a gaze so filled with sheer, unadulterated venom that it could have melted glass.
"You used me," Victoria whispered, her voice trembling with fury. "You used my family's name to cover your embezzlement."
"Victoria, wait—let me explain—" Arthur stammered, stumbling down the altar steps, his hands outstretched in desperate supplication. "It’s a misunderstanding! The federal agent is lying—"
Before Arthur could reach her, Victoria raised her hand and slapped him across the face with such force that the sharp crack echoed through the silent cathedral.
"Our wedding is canceled," Victoria hissed, ripping her diamond engagement ring off her finger and hurling it directly into Arthur’s chest. "And my family’s legal team will make sure you spend the rest of your life in a federal penitentiary."
District Attorney Thomas Vance, realizing his political career and family reputation were actively catching fire in front of the city’s most influential citizens, backed away from Arthur as if he were carrying a plague.
"Mr. Sterling," Vance muttered, adjusting his tie with shaking hands, "you are entirely on your own."
At that exact moment, the heavy oak doors at the back of the cathedral swung open with a resounding thud. Two federal marshals in tactical vests walked up the aisle, their heavy boots clicking rhythmically against the stone floor. They didn't draw weapons, but their presence was absolute and inescapable.
"Arthur Sterling," Marcus Vance announced clearly, stepping forward. "You are under arrest for federal wire fraud, interstate embezzlement, conspiracy to commit corporate theft, and suspected administration of lethal toxins resulting in homicide. You have the right to remain silent..."
The marshals grabbed Arthur by both arms. He didn't fight back. His legs seemed to turn to water as they hauled him backward down the very aisle he had planned to walk as a triumphant conqueror. His expensive shoes dragged across the marble floor, leaving no doubt about the finality of his fall.
As he passed the girls, April—standing safely between Rachel and me—looked up, her small voice cutting through the quiet hum of the church.

"Goodbye, Dad," she whispered.
Arthur couldn't even look at her. His head hung low, swallowed entirely by the shadows of the doorway as the heavy cathedral doors slammed shut behind him.
