Full-page spreads featured photographs of our newly expanded distribution hubs—massive, state-of-the-art facilities humming with automated freight systems and state-of-the-art logistics software.

And right there in the center of the executive profile was a full-page portrait of me—standing tall in a sharp, tailored gray suit, my expression calm, resolute, and entirely unyielding.

Down in the city, Adrian Falk was sitting in a federal penitentiary awaiting trial for wire fraud and securities manipulation, his shiny Rolex replaced by a plastic identification band and his luxury cars seized by the government.

As for Elliot? She had taken a low-level administrative job at a suburban retail outlet, living in a cramped studio apartment thirty miles outside the city, completely ostracized by the high-society circles she had tried so desperately to infiltrate. She had traded a man who built a kingdom for a man who built a house of cards, and the collapse had buried her completely.
