Inside the sprawling living room, Lily sat curled up on the oversized velvet sofa, a favorite storybook resting open across her lap. Rusty lay stretched out directly across her shins like a heavy, living blanket, his amber eyes half-closed in absolute bliss as he dozed in the warm evening light.
