Chapter 2 - THE FALL OF THE GOLDEN CHILDThe horror in the courtyard was palpable.

Ryan didn't just look defeated; he looked destroyed. He spun around on his knees, turning his terror directly onto Ashley.

"You!" Ryan screamed at his new bride, his voice cracking with rage. "You told me your sister was a broke, uneducated parasite! You told me she was a mistake! You made me look like an idiot in front of Arthur Sterling!"

"Ryan, baby, calm down—" Ashley stuttered, taking a step back, clutching her stained dress.

"Don't touch me!" Ryan yelled, shoving her away. The crowd—the very same crowd that had cheered when Emily was pushed—was now filming Ryan’s breakdown on their phones.

Emily’s mother scrambled toward Arthur, her face contorted in desperation.

"Arthur—Mr. Sterling, sir!" she pleaded, her voice trembling. "There’s been a massive misunderstanding! Emily is my daughter! We love her! We were just... playing around! It’s family tough love!"

Arthur didn't even acknowledge her presence. He signaled to his head bodyguard, a broad-shouldered man named Vance.

"Vance, escort Miss Emily and my granddaughter to the limousine. Warm towels, dry clothes, and set a full security perimeter."

"Right away, sir."

Emily looked at her mother. For five years, she had endured the insults, the cold shoulders, the quiet disgust at every holiday table. She had swallowed her pride to give her daughter a family, no matter how toxic they were.

"You called me a disgrace, Mom," Emily said quietly as Vance wrapped a warm blanket around her shoulders. "You told me Ashley married a 'real man.' Look at your real man now."

She pointed at Ryan, who was currently weeping on his hands and knees, frantically dialing his CFO while begging Arthur’s security team for mercy.

"Emily, please!" Her father stepped forward, his pride completely shattered. "We’re your parents! You can’t let him ruin your sister’s life! Think about the family name!"

"You didn't care about the family name when you shoved me into a fountain in front of a hundred people," Emily retorted, her eyes cold as steel. "You didn't care when my daughter was screaming in fear while you all applauded."

She took Daisy’s small, warm hand.

"Keep the white roses," Emily added, casting a final glance over the luxurious estate. "You're going to need them for the funeral of your reputations."

As Emily turned her back and walked toward the sleek black SUV, Arthur Sterling turned to face the entire wedding party. The sun was setting, casting long, dark shadows across the grand estate.

"By tomorrow morning, every news outlet in the state will have the unedited footage of how the Whitaker and Vance families treat women and children," Arthur announced calmly. "Every contract, every sponsorship, every bank loan you hold... is revoked."

"You can't do this!" Ashley sobbed, her mask of perfection totally shattered. "This is my special day!"

"It was your special day," Arthur corrected her coldly. "Now, it’s just the day you lost everything."

Arthur walked toward the SUV, leaving a chaotic mess behind.

Inside the vehicle, the air was warm, smelling of rich leather and fresh lavender. Daisy was wrapped in a plush towel, sipping warm cocoa, fast asleep against Emily’s chest.

"Are you ready for what comes next, Emily?" Arthur asked gently as the driver pulled away from the gates of the estate.

Emily looked out the tinted window. Through the glass, she could see police cruisers and dark luxury sedans pulling up to the estate gates—the corporate audits had already begun.

"No, Arthur," Emily said, a dark, calculating smile touching her lips. "This was just the prologue. Now, we take back everything they stole from me."
