CHAPTER 5: THE MAN WHO CARRIED THE SIN OF AN ENTIRE FAMILY

The rain stopped.
But the storm inside Renata’s heart had only begun.
The old man stood at the entrance of the alley, surrounded by people in expensive suits.
Everyone became silent when he appeared.
Not because he was holding a weapon.
Not because he threatened anyone.
But because everyone knew his name.
Adrián Salvatierra.
The founder of one of Mexico’s largest business empires.
A man who had been declared dead ten years earlier after a private plane accident.
A man whose disappearance created endless rumors.
A man Renata had never known existed.
Her father.
Renata stared at him.
Her lips moved, but no words came out.
“My…”
She stopped.
The word felt impossible.
“My father?”
Adrián looked at her.
And for the first time, the powerful businessman disappeared.
There was only a broken father looking at the daughter he had lost.
“Yes.”
His voice trembled.
“I searched for you every day.”
Renata laughed softly.
But there was no happiness in it.
“Every day?”
A tear rolled down her cheek.
“Where were you when I was sleeping in a tiny room above a restaurant?”
Adrián lowered his eyes.
“Renata…”
“Where were you when my mother was sick?”
Silence.
“Where were you when I had to quit school because we couldn’t afford medicine?”
Every word cut deeper.
Alexander watched without speaking.
Because he knew.
Renata wasn’t angry because she found out she was rich.
She was angry because she had spent her entire life believing nobody came looking for her.
Adrián stepped closer.
“I deserve your anger.”
Renata looked at him.
“Then tell me the truth.”
Her voice became cold.
“No more secrets.”
Everyone looked at each other.
Because the truth was exactly what they had been running from.
Adrián nodded slowly.
“You deserve to know everything.”
He looked at Alexander.
“Especially what he did.”
Alexander’s face tightened.
“Don’t.”
Adrián ignored him.
“Twenty-four years ago, your mother discovered something.”
Renata listened carefully.
“She discovered that Mateo was planning to take control of the Salvatierra empire.”
Mateo laughed.
“And she believed you?”
Adrián looked at him.
“She was smarter than all of us.”
His expression darkened.
“She found proof that Mateo had been stealing money from the family companies for years.”
Renata looked at Mateo.
The man who had tried to erase her.
The man who wanted the inheritance.
“So my mother threatened him.”
“Yes.”
Adrián nodded.
“And that’s why he tried to kill you.”
Mateo smiled.
“Careful, father.”
The word sounded poisonous.
“You’re telling the story like you were innocent.”
Everyone became quiet.
Because Mateo had touched a painful truth.
Adrián looked away.
Renata noticed.
“You weren’t innocent?”
The old man didn’t answer.
And that was enough.
“Tell me.”
His shoulders lowered.
“The night your mother escaped…”
He paused.
“I knew Mateo was coming.”
Renata’s eyes widened.
“You knew?”
“I knew he was dangerous.”
“Then why didn’t you save us?”
The question broke him.
Because he had no answer.
Finally, he whispered:
“Because I was afraid.”
Renata stared.
The most powerful man in Mexico admitted he was afraid.
“I thought I could control him.”
Adrián closed his eyes.
“I was wrong.”
Suddenly, a baby began crying.
Everyone turned.
The little girl in Alexander’s arms woke up.
Her tiny hand reached toward him.
Renata watched.
And something strange happened.
Despite all the chaos…
Despite all the lies…
She saw the truth.
Alexander wasn’t pretending.
He genuinely loved those children.
“Who are they?”
Renata asked.
Alexander looked at the babies.
Then at Adrián.
The silence became heavy.
Finally, he answered.
“They are the reason this war started.”
Renata frowned.
“What does that mean?”
Alexander took a deep breath.
“Their mother was my wife.”
Everyone froze.
Renata looked shocked.
“You were married?”
“Yes.”
“And?”
Alexander’s eyes filled with pain.
“She discovered the same thing your mother discovered.”
A terrible feeling entered Renata’s chest.
“She knew about Mateo?”
“Yes.”
Alexander looked at the babies.
“She was killed before she could expose him.”
Renata looked at the children.
“So they are…”
“My children.”
His voice broke.
“The last people who can prove Mateo’s crimes.”
Mateo suddenly laughed.
Everyone looked at him.
“You all keep talking like I lost.”
He slowly stepped backward.
“But none of you understand.”
Adrián’s expression changed.
“What did you do?”
Mateo smiled.
“The reason I was always one step ahead…”
He looked at Renata.
“Was because someone inside this family helped me.”
A cold silence fell.
Alexander reached for his weapon.
“Who?”
Mateo looked around.
At Isabel.
At Adrián.
At Alexander.
Then finally…
At Renata.
“No.”
Renata whispered.
Mateo smiled.
“Your mother.”
The world stopped.
“No.”
“Yes.”
He walked closer.
“Your mother wasn’t just hiding you.”
Renata shook her head.
“Stop lying.”
Mateo smiled.
“She was protecting you from the truth.”
He pointed at the necklace around her neck.
“Ask yourself why she gave you that.”
Renata touched it.
The silver necklace.
The one everyone seemed to recognize.
“What is it?”
Nobody answered.
Then Isabel stepped forward.
Her face was full of fear.
“Renata…”
“What?”
The old woman’s voice trembled.
“That necklace belonged to your brother.”
Renata froze.
“My brother?”
Adrián closed his eyes.
Because he knew what was coming.
“You were not my only child.”
Renata looked at him.
“What are you saying?”
Adrián whispered:
“Before you were born…”
“I had another daughter.”
Renata stared.
“That doesn’t make sense.”
Adrián’s eyes filled with tears.
“Because she was never supposed to survive.”
A cold wind passed through the alley.
Alexander suddenly looked at Renata.
And then at the babies.
His face changed.
“Wait…”
Everyone turned.
Alexander looked terrified.
“No…”
Renata grabbed his arm.
“What?”
He looked at her.
“The necklace.”
She touched it.
“What about it?”
Alexander’s voice was barely audible.
“That symbol…”
He looked at the two babies.
“It belongs to the original Salvatierra bloodline.”
Silence.
Then the baby boy opened his eyes.
And on his tiny wrist…
Was the same birthmark Renata had carried since childhood.
The same mark her mother always told her to hide.
Everyone froze.
Because the impossible truth had finally appeared.
The babies weren’t just Alexander’s children.
They weren’t just heirs.
They were connected to Renata.
By blood.
Adrián whispered the words nobody expected:
“My God…”
“They are your brother’s children.”
Renata stepped back.
“My brother?”
Alexander looked at her with horror.
“Renata…”
The final secret came out.
“The person who was supposed to inherit everything before you…”
“Was never dead.”
A pause.
“He was the father of these babies.”
Renata looked at the two innocent children.
And realized something terrifying.
The family she had spent her whole life searching for…
Had been beside her all along.
But before anyone could process it…
A phone rang.
Mateo looked at the screen.
And smiled.
Because the message he received contained only four words:
“The real heir has arrived.”
Mateo raised his eyes.
And for the first time…
He wasn’t looking at Renata.
He was looking behind her.
Someone else had arrived.
Someone who knew the entire truth.
May you like
Someone who had been controlling everything from the beginning.
