Chapter 9 - The Final Showdown at Pier 12The night air off the harbor was biting and smelled of salt, diesel, and rotting seaweed.

The black armored SUV pulled to a screeching halt outside Warehouse 12, a massive, rusted corrugated-iron structure looming against the dark, churning waters of the bay. Inside, amber sodium lights cast long, distorted shadows across stacked shipping containers.
Vance cut the engine. He turned to me, holding out a sleek, heavy-caliber pistol.
"Elena, you don't have to go inside. I can take a strike team in and finish this," Vance said, his eyes filled with a rare, genuine concern.
I looked at the gun, then shook my head. I didn't take the weapon. Instead, I reached into my pocket and pulled out the heavy brass key, letting it catch the pale light of the moon.
"No, Vance. This ends with me," I said, opening the door and stepping out into the cold night wind.
As I walked toward the towering double doors of Warehouse 12, they creaked open.
Standing in the center of the vast, echoing space was Viktor Novak. He was flanked by a dozen heavily armed guards, their weapons drawn and ready.
"Well, well, the queen arrives," Viktor sneered, stepping forward with his hands in his pockets. He looked smug, confident that he held all the physical power in the room. "I must admit, Elena, you have more balls than your father ever did. But games come to an end."
"You're right, Viktor. They do," I said, my voice carrying clearly across the empty warehouse.
I stopped ten feet away from him, holding up the brass key between my fingers.
"You want this? You want the ledger? You want the throne Carl left behind?" I asked, my gaze piercing straight through him.
"Hand it over, and I might let you walk out of here alive," Viktor smiled, motioning for two of his guards to step forward.
"I'll give you something better," I said softly.
I pressed a button on the small encrypted remote hidden in my coat pocket.
Instantly, every television, computer monitor, and digital billboard lining the surrounding harbor district flickered. The live feed from my laptop—every single document, every illegal bank transfer, every corrupt name tied to Viktor Novak and the Iron Cobra cartel—broadcasted in glaring, high-definition public view across the entire city.
Viktor’s phone buzzed violently in his pocket. Then his guards' radios started squawking with frantic voices from their syndicate contacts.
Viktor pulled out his phone, stared at the screen, and his face turned the color of ash.
"What... what did you do?" he whispered, horror dawning in his eyes.
"I just burned your empire to the ground, Viktor," I said, stepping closer. "Carl didn't leave me a weapon to rule a criminal underworld. He left me a match. And I just dropped it."
Viktor’s face twisted into a mask of pure, unadulterated rage. He pulled a pistol from his holster, leveling it straight at my chest. "If I'm going down, I'm taking you with me!"

He pulled the trigger.
