Chapter 10 - THE PROMISE OF SPRINGOne year later.

Jenna stood in a small, cozy bakery in a different part of the city. Daisy was sitting at a table, drawing pictures—not on scrap paper, but in a brand-new sketchbook.

The door opened. It was Matthew. He was out on parole, a man with no mansion, no title, and no empire. He walked toward the counter, his eyes finding Jenna’s.

"I have nothing left to give you," he said softly.

Jenna smiled, setting down a cup of coffee. "You gave me the truth, Matthew. That’s more than enough."

Outside, the snow was melting. The bitter cold of the Chicago winter was fading, and for the first time, Jenna didn't feel the weight of the past. She looked at her daughter, then at the man who had once been her husband's boss, and she knew: the broken pieces had finally formed a new picture.
