Chapter 7 - The Tables TurnDaniel stood up, his face twisted in a mask of absolute fury and desperation. He ignored the federal marshals for a fraction of a second, glaring down at me with pure venom.

“I gave you a home!” Daniel screamed, his voice cracking as restaurant patrons at surrounding tables stared in horror. “I gave you my name! You were nothing without me!”
“I was an accountant, Daniel,” I whispered softly, standing up from the booth and looking down at him with serene detachment. “You were just too arrogant to check my credentials.”
The marshals moved swiftly, snapping heavy steel handcuffs onto Daniel’s wrists with a sharp, metallic click.

Victor began thrashing and cursing as he was hauled up from his seat, kicking over his chair and screaming my name as they dragged him past the obsidian bar toward the exit.
Daniel didn't fight back as they led him away. He simply stared at me with hollow, defeated eyes, finally realizing that the woman he had slapped across the kitchen floor was the exact person holding the key to his complete and total destruction.
