Chapter 6 - The Dragon AwakensThe underground compound transformed overnight from a sanctuary into a war room.

By dawn, the minimalist penthouse suite was crowded with men in sharp charcoal suits, digital tactical maps glowing blue across the glass coffee tables, and satellite feeds flashing real-time surveillance of the city's underground docks, warehouses, and financial hubs.
I sat at the edge of a leather sofa, wrapped in a thick, cashmere sweater Martha had given me, holding a cup of hot black coffee I couldn't bring myself to drink. Across the room, Dante stood over a digital tactical display, barking orders with the cold, absolute authority of a general preparing for total annihilation.
"Vito thinks he has the upper hand because he struck first at Bellagio," Dante said, his voice echoing through the suite. "He's hiding out in the old shipping yards on Pier 42, consolidating his men. He believes we're reeling."
"Boss," Mateo spoke up from the corner, his injured shoulder heavily bandaged beneath his suit jacket, "we have eyes on their perimeter. They've got at least thirty armed soldiers holding the main gates. It's a fortified kill zone."
Dante didn't flinch. He slowly raised his right hand, the black dragon tattoo catching the harsh blue light of the tactical map.
"Then we don't go through the gates," Dante replied quietly, a lethal calm washing over his features. "We burn the nest from the inside out."
He turned away from the maps and walked straight across the room toward me. The surrounding captains and soldiers immediately lowered their voices, stepping back to give us space. Dante stopped in front of me, crouching down so we were eye-to-eye.
"Mara," he said, his voice softer now, stripped of the syndicate commander's edge. "You don't belong in this world. You were supposed to be safe from it. But Vito brought you into the crosshairs, and that is a debt that can only be paid in blood."
"What are you going to do?" I asked, my heart pounding against my ribs.
"I am going to end this family civil war once and for all," Dante said firmly. "And when it's over, you will have a choice. You can walk away with a new identity, all the money you'll ever need, and live the peaceful life Elena wanted for you... or you can take your rightful place at my side as a Moretti."
Before I could answer, the heavy security doors at the end of the suite hissed open.
Martha walked in, carrying little Dante in her arms. The baby looked around with wide, serious eyes, and the instant he spotted me, he let out a joyful gurgle and stretched his tiny arms out toward me, exactly as he had done yesterday at the restaurant.
My breath caught. I stood up and took the baby into my arms, burying my face softly against his fair hair. The familiar scent of baby powder and clean linen washed over me. Looking down at him, I realized something fundamental had shifted inside my soul. The fear that had defined my entire life—the fear my mother drilled into me about running away from dragons—was gone.
I wasn't running anymore.
I looked up from the baby and met Dante's piercing dark gaze.
"I'm not going anywhere," I said, my voice steady, carrying an echo of the iron resolve that ran deep in our shared bloodline. "If Vito wants war, let's give him a front-row seat."

Dante stared at me for a long moment, a slow, grim smile finally breaking across his scarred face—the smile of a man who had just found his missing piece.
"Load up," Dante commanded, standing tall and looking around the room at his loyal men. "We're going hunting."
