Chapter 13 - THE MISTRESS'S EXITBefore Daniel could recover from the blow, a white Bentley pulled up curbside with a screech of tires.

The rear door flew open, and Vanessa Crane stepped out, wrapped in her high-end furs, looking like a woman on the verge of a homicidal breakdown.

"Daniel! What is happening?!" Vanessa demanded, marching straight up to him. "My private cards were just declined at Tiffany's! My personal trust accounts are frozen! The bank told me my entire family line of credit is linked to some federal asset freeze!"

Daniel looked at her, his voice a hollow whisper. "Vanessa... my wife... she's a billionaire. She owns everything."

Vanessa stopped dead. She stared at Daniel as if he had grown a second head, her eyes narrowing into slits of pure venom.

"Your wife?" Vanessa hissed, her voice rising in screeching hysteria. "You told me she was broke! You told me she was a pathetic nobody you were going to cast aside with nothing!"

"I didn't know!" Daniel cried out, reaching for her arm.

Vanessa violently yanked her arm away, sneering with absolute disgust. "If you're broke, you're worthless to me. Don't ever call my phone again."

She slammed the door of her Bentley, shouting at the driver to get her away from the wreckage as fast as possible. In less than an hour, Daniel Mercer had lost his empire, his money, and his glamorous mistress.
