Chapter 10 - THE UNBROKEN EMPIREONE YEAR LATER

The Halston Ballroom was lit by thousands of golden chandeliers, filled once again with six hundred of Chicago’s most powerful elite.
It was the anniversary of the Moretti-Hart merger—now recognized as the single largest corporate empire in the entire Midwest.
I stood at the top of the grand marble staircase—the very staircase where, one year ago, Julian had led Serena by the hand while my family asked me not to embarrass them.
Tonight, I wore a breath-taking floor-length gown made of liquid gold silk. Around my neck was a magnificent diamond necklace, and on my right hand sparkled the Black Raven signet ring.
Beside me stood Nikolai Moretti, Don of Chicago, looking like an emperor in his midnight-blue tuxedo.
The entire room stood in absolute, respectful silence, looking up at us.
Among the crowd were the senators, the judges, the capos, and the titans of industry who had once looked at me with pity. Now, they bowed their heads when my eyes swept over them.
Penny stood near the stage, holding a glass of champagne, raising it toward me with a wide, triumphant grin.
Nikolai turned toward me, reaching out his hand.
I placed my hand in his, feeling the warmth, the strength, and the absolute loyalty of the man who had given me a choice when the world had offered me only submission.
"Ready, my Queen?" Nikolai whispered, his dark eyes sparkling with infinite love.
"Always, my Don," I replied with a soft, radiant smile.

Hand in hand, Nikolai and I walked down the grand staircase together, stepping into the light of our empire—an empire built not on betrayal, but on an unbroken bond forged in the darkest shadows of Chicago.
