Chapter 10 - THE KINGDOM OF SUNLIGHTThree years later.

The afternoon sun shone brightly over the private terrace of the Marcone Villa overlooking Lake Michigan.

The warm summer breeze rustled the leaves of the oak trees surrounding the vast estate, carrying the fresh scent of blooming roses and water.

Sitting on a plush wicker sofa on the stone terrace was Mara. She wore a loose, flowing yellow silk dress, her dark hair glowing in the sunlight, looking radiantly beautiful, soft, and completely at peace.

In her arms, she cradled a newborn baby boy with a head of dark hair and sharp hazel eyes—little Silas Marcone Jr.

Playing near the marble fountain was six-year-old Poppy, wearing a bright pink sundress, chasing a golden retriever puppy across the lawn, her laughter echoing through the gardens.

The terrace glass doors slid open softly.

Silas stepped out onto the terrace. He wore a simple white linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up, revealing his muscular, tattooed forearms, and dark trousers. Gone was the stoic, lethal Don who had once lived only in darkness and violence. In his eyes was a deep, unshakeable serenity.

He walked over to the sofa, setting down a tray of fresh lemonade and fruit, and knelt beside Mara.

He leaned down, pressing a gentle, lingering kiss onto his newborn son’s forehead, before looking up into Mara’s eyes.

"How is the little prince?" Silas whispered, his hand gently caressing Mara’s soft cheek.

"He's quiet... just like his father when he's thinking," Mara smiled, leaning her head against his hand.

Silas sat beside her on the wide sofa, wrapping his broad arm around her waist, pulling both his wife and newborn son tightly against his chest.

From the terrace, they could look out over the sprawling estate and the glowing city of Grayhaven beyond.

The city was no longer ruled by fear, corruption, and backroom betrayals. Under Mara’s influence, the Marcone Syndicate had transitioned almost entirely into legitimate global logistics, community foundations, and urban development. The people of Grayhaven no longer feared the Marcone name—they respected it.

"Do you remember," Silas murmured softly, his thumb gently caressing the heavy gold signet ring on Mara’s finger, "that night in the wine cellar... when you chopped those cords with broken scissors?"

Mara chuckled softly, resting her head against his broad shoulder as Poppy came running over, jumping into Silas’s lap to join the family hug.

"I remember thinking you were the scariest man I’d ever seen," Mara whispered, looking up into his warm hazel eyes.

Silas looked down at the woman who had saved his life, healed his heart, and built an empire of true love from the ashes of war.

"And now?" Silas purred, his lips pressing deeply against hers.

"Now," Mara smiled against his mouth, her heart bursting with endless warmth, "you're just my husband."

May you like

Silas kissed her deep into the golden sunset, holding his whole world in his arms, while the city of Grayhaven slept safely beneath their Queen's reign.
