Chapter 2 - THE PAPER TIGER COLLAPSES

By 6:00 AM the following morning, the financial markets hadn't even opened, but the war was already over before the Vance family realized it had begun.
Inside the penthouse suite of the Apex Titan headquarters, Elena stood before a floor-to-ceiling glass wall overlooking the city skyline. She was freshly showered, her hair slicked back, wearing an ivory suit that screamed unyielding power. On the table behind her sat three steaming cups of black coffee and a stack of financial dossiers.
"Report," she commanded without turning around.
Marcus stepped forward, opening a tablet. "Vance Global Logistics relies on three primary credit facilities from First National Bank, Apex Subsidiary Fund B, and the Sterling Trust. As of 4:00 AM, we have acquired 85% of their debt notes. They owe $340 million maturing in forty-eight hours."
"And their liquid reserves?" Elena asked softly.
"Less than twelve million," Marcus replied with a cold smile. "They spent the last of their cash reserves leasing the private jet Julian took to Paris last week—the one he brought his mistress on."
Elena’s eyes flashed with a razor-sharp flame, though her face remained completely stoic. For three years, she had lived inside the Vance estate under a false identity—a social experiment and a test of character she had agreed to when she married Julian. She had wanted to know if he loved her, Elena the woman, or Elena the billionaire heiress to the Ritter fortune.
She had given him three years to show a shred of humanity, respect, or loyalty.
Instead, he had treated her like a servant, allowed his monstrous mother to verbalize relentless abuse, cheat on her publicly, and ultimately physical assault her in front of a guest.
He had failed the test in the most horrific way possible. And now, the bill was due.
Meanwhile, at the Vance mansion, total chaos had erupted.
Julian’s phone was ringing off the hook. Bank presidents, board members, suppliers, and media outlets were flooding his line. Victoria was pacing back and forth in her silk robe, her face still red and blotchy from Elena’s slap.
"Fix this, Julian!" Victoria screamed, smashing a teacup against the wall. "Call her! Tell her it was a joke! Tell her my hand slipped! She can't do this to us! We are the Vances!"
"She isn't picking up!" Julian yelled, his hands shaking so violently he dropped his phone onto the couch. "Mother, you don't understand! She owns Apex Titan! She isn't just rich—she controls our entire supply chain! If she calls in those notes tomorrow, we are ruined! We’ll lose the house, the cars, the company, everything!"
Suddenly, the front doors of the mansion were pushed open. Two men in sharp dark suits walked in unannounced, followed by two armed security guards.
"What is the meaning of this?!" Victoria demanded, trying to put on her usual aristocratic facade. "This is private property! Get out before I have you arrested!"
The lead man pulled a legal document from his briefcase. "Victoria Vance, Julian Vance. I am legal counsel for Apex Titan Holdings. We are here to serve a formal notice of asset seizure and immediate eviction."
Julian gasped. "Eviction?! This house has been in the Vance family for three generations!"
"Correction," the lawyer replied with a chillingly polite smile. "This house was put up as collateral for a $50 million bridge loan six months ago. That loan was bought by Apex Titan at 2:00 AM today. It is now in default. You have two hours to clear your personal belongings. Anything left behind will be liquidated to settle your outstanding debts to Chairwoman Ritter."
Julian fell to his knees. "Where is she? Let me talk to Elena! Please!"
The lawyer looked down at Julian with pure pity. "Chairwoman Ritter doesn't speak to bankrupt liabilities, Mr. Vance. But she did leave a message for you."

"What message?!" Julian begged, tears finally spilling down his cheeks.
The lawyer leaned down and whispered, "She said: 'Low-class people don't belong in high-class homes.'"
