Chapter 4: The Warehouse of Lies

Richard Hawthorne had built companies worth billions.
He had negotiated with presidents.
He had stared down criminals, politicians, and Wall Street sharks.
But nothing had ever terrified him like hearing a little girl call him...
"Dad."
For twelve years...
She had been alive.
And he had never known.
"Trace the call!"
Richard shouted.
"The video!"
"The IP address!"
"I want every federal agency involved!"
Within minutes, the Hawthorne Tower transformed into a military command center.
Cybersecurity experts filled the conference room.
Former FBI agents monitored dozens of computer screens.
Private helicopters prepared for takeoff on the rooftop.
No expense mattered anymore.
Richard wasn't trying to save his company.
He was trying to save his daughter.
Across the city...
Inside an abandoned warehouse...
A little girl sat tied to an old metal chair.
Her long brown hair covered part of her frightened face.
Her wrists were bruised from struggling.
But despite the fear in her eyes...
She wasn't crying anymore.
Because her mother had taught her one rule.
"Never let monsters see you break."
The warehouse door slowly creaked open.
A tall man stepped inside.
Black gloves.
Black boots.
And the same raven tattoo on his wrist.
Lily immediately recognized him.
"You..."
"You were at our apartment."
The man smiled.
"Very smart."
"You look just like your mother."
He placed a cardboard box on the floor.
Inside were dozens of old photographs.
Lily stared at them.
Every picture showed the same family.
Richard.
Emily.
Baby Ethan.
Baby Lily.
Some had clearly been taken in secret.
Someone had been watching them...
Since the day they were born.
Back at Hawthorne Tower...
A young cyber analyst suddenly stood up.
"I found something!"
Every eye turned toward his monitor.
"The video wasn't livestreamed."
"What?"
"It was pre-recorded."
Richard's heart sank.
"So Lily could already be somewhere else?"
The analyst nodded.
"Yes."
"But whoever sent it made one mistake."
He zoomed into a tiny reflection inside one of the warehouse windows.
Richard leaned closer.
"What am I looking at?"
The analyst enhanced the image.
There...
Barely visible...
Was the reflection of a truck parked outside.
Its company logo was blurred.
But not completely.
Three letters remained visible.
A.S.I.
Richard frowned.
"I've never heard of it."
Then Margaret, the elderly housekeeper, gasped.
"Oh my God..."
Everyone looked at her.
She covered her mouth with trembling hands.
"I know that logo."
Richard stared.
"Where?"
Margaret swallowed hard.
"Twelve years ago..."
"The night Emily disappeared..."
"I saw the exact same truck parked outside your mansion."
The room went silent.
Richard felt chills run down his spine.
"You never told me."
"I was threatened."
"They said if I spoke..."
"They would kill both babies."
Suddenly...
Another voice interrupted.
"I know who owns A.S.I."
Everyone turned.
It was Ethan.
The boy had quietly been flipping through the old photographs left inside Daniel Mercer's briefcase.
One picture caught his attention.
On the back...
Someone had written an address.
And underneath it...
Three letters.
A.S.I.
Richard knelt beside him.
"How did you notice that?"
Ethan looked at another photograph.
"My mom always told me..."
"The answers are never on the front."
"They're always hiding on the back."
Richard turned the photo over.
Written in faded ink was a full company name.
Ashford Security International.
Richard froze.
"No..."
One of his lawyers looked equally shocked.
"That's impossible."
Richard whispered,
"I founded Ashford Security twenty-five years ago."
The room exploded.
"What?"
"I sold it fifteen years ago."
"I thought it had gone bankrupt."
The lawyer slowly shook his head.
"It never closed."
"It was secretly purchased..."
"...through shell companies."
Richard's breathing became heavier.
"Who owns it now?"
Nobody answered.
Because at that exact moment...
Every computer screen in the command center suddenly turned black.
One by one...
The monitors displayed the same message.
WELCOME BACK, RICHARD.
YOU CREATED THIS MONSTER.
Then a familiar face appeared.
Emily.
She smiled gently into the camera.
Richard stumbled backward.
"No..."
"This can't be happening."
The recording began.
"If you're watching this..."
"...it means they finally came for our children."
Richard's eyes filled with tears.
Emily continued.
"I couldn't tell you the truth before."
"Because the man hunting us..."
"...was someone you trusted more than anyone."
The video suddenly glitched.
Static filled the screen.
Then...
A new face appeared.
An elderly man with silver hair.
Expensive suit.
Cold blue eyes.
Richard dropped to his knees.
He knew that face.
Everyone in America knew that face.
It was Charles Hawthorne...
Richard's own father.
A man officially declared dead...
Eight years ago.
Charles smiled into the camera.
"Hello, son."
"I've been waiting a very long time..."
May you like
"...for this family reunion."
To Be Continued...
