Chapter 9 - The New Dawn

The morning sun rose over the city, washing the harbor in brilliant strokes of gold and amber.
I stood on the private balcony of my penthouse apartment—a sprawling, multi-level estate overlooking the financial district that I had purchased years ago under a corporate shell, long before Weston even knew my real name.
On the kitchen island downstairs, a fresh pot of Ethiopian coffee was brewing, filling the air with a rich, complex aroma. There was no broken crystal on the floor. There were no demands from a cold mother-in-law. There was only absolute peace, absolute control, and the infinite horizon of a world I commanded.
My encrypted phone buzzed on the wrought-iron patio table.
I picked it up and tapped the screen. It was a secure legal dispatch from my senior counsel: Prescott Industries liquidation finalized. Assets absorbed into Veritas holdings. Divorce petition served to Mr. Weston Prescott at his mother’s apartment.
I locked the screen and set the phone down, looking out over the harbor where cargo ships bearing the Veritas insignia moved steadily across the blue water, carrying the commerce of the future.
