Chapter 7 - The Final ConfrontationBy Wednesday afternoon, the corporate restructuring was complete.

I stood on the balcony of the executive office on the fortieth floor—the very office my mother had occupied for a decade, now completely cleared of her personal belongings, her framed family photos, and her vanity mirrors. The view of the city skyline was breathtaking, stretching out endlessly beneath a clearing sky.
Ethan walked out onto the balcony, handing me a glass of sparkling water. He wrapped his arms around my waist from behind, resting his chin on my shoulder.
"You did it," he whispered, smiling against my neck. "You own Vanguard. You control the estate. Your father would be so damn proud of you."
"He would," I smiled, taking a sip of the water. "And the best part? Eleanor has nothing left."
As if summoned by the mention of her name, the heavy oak doors of the executive office downstairs burst open.
Through the glass wall of the balcony, I saw her.
Eleanor had somehow slipped past lobby security, barging onto the fortieth floor looking like a ghost of her former self. Her hair was unbrushed, her eyes wild, and her designer suit wrinkled and stained. She was screaming frantically at a security guard who was trying to block her path.
"Get your hands off me! Do you know who I am?! I am Eleanor Vance! I own this company!"
"Ma'am, you are trespassing. You need to leave immediately or we will call the police," the security guard warned firmly, pushing her back toward the elevator.
"No! Let me see Natalie! Natalie, you ungrateful little witch, get out here!" Eleanor shrieked, thrashing against the guard's grip.
I turned away from the balcony railing, walked slowly through the glass sliding doors, and stepped into the center of the grand executive office. I didn't rush. I took my time, smoothing down the lapel of my tailored blazer.
The security guard finally managed to corner her near the doorway, but Eleanor wrenched herself free, pointing a trembling, furious finger directly at me as I approached.
"You did this," Eleanor hissed, her voice cracking with pure venom and tears of humiliation. "You stole my company! You destroyed our family! After everything I sacrificed for you, you stabbed me in the back!"
I stopped five feet away from her, looking down with absolute, emotionless calm.
"Sacrificed for me, Mother?" I asked, my voice cutting through her hysterical rant like glass. "When did you ever sacrifice anything for me? Was it when you forced me to sign away my inheritance at nineteen? Was it when you used my identity as a financial shield for your illegal schemes? Or was it when you slapped me twice in front of all my friends because I wouldn't fund Chloe's reckless lifestyle?"
Eleanor stepped forward, her face twisting in pure hatred. "I gave you a life! Without me, you’re nothing!"
"No," I replied softly, shaking my head. "Without you, I am finally free."
Before she could lunge forward, two more security guards arrived, grabbing her firmly by the arms and hoisting her upward.
"Let me go! Let me go, you hear me?! Natalie, you'll pay for this! I’ll ruin you! I’ll—" Her screams echoed down the hallway as the guards dragged her toward the elevators, kicking and thrashing all the way.
The heavy elevator doors slid shut, cutting off her voice completely.
The floor fell silent once more.
Ethan walked up beside me, slipping his hand into mine and interlacing our fingers. He looked down at the empty hallway, then turned to look at me, his eyes full of endless love and reverence.
"What now, CEO Grace?" he asked softly, a warm smile touching his lips.

I looked out the massive floor-to-ceiling window, watching the sun break through the clouds and flood the city with golden light. The $60,000 inheritance my father left me had started it all, but it was no longer just a memory of the past. It was the foundation of my entire future.
"Now," I smiled, squeezing Ethan's hand tightly, "we build our home."
