Chapter 8 - THE EMPIRE BUILT ON TRUSTSix months later, Corso Ristorante was hosting a private gala.

The polished marble floors gleamed under the soft golden lighting. Crystal glasses clinked softly, and powerful men and women mingled freely, discussing shipping contracts, real estate developments, and philanthropy.

At the center of it all stood Naomi Rivers.

She wore a stunning emerald-green silk gown that caught the light with every step. Her hair was swept up elegantly, and a genuine, radiant smile graced her face as she spoke with the director of the New York Animal Rescue Foundation—a new charity funded entirely by Santoro Holdings and spearheaded by Naomi herself.

Across the room, standing near the private mahogany archway, Belvin Santoro watched her with an expression of profound, quiet devotion. He wore a sharp charcoal tuxedo, but the cold, intimidating aura that once defined him had been replaced by the quiet confidence of a man who had finally found peace.

And sitting right beside Belvin’s polished leather shoes, wearing a custom leather collar with a silver nameplate, was Titan.

The massive brindle pit bull was calm, majestic, and completely at ease amid the bustling crowd of high-society elites. Several wealthy investors walked past, eyeing the famous dog with cautious respect, but none of them felt fear. They knew the beast belonged to a different world now—a world protected by loyalty, strength, and love.

Naomi excused herself from her conversation and walked across the polished marble floor toward them.

As she approached, Titan’s tail began to thump heavily against the floor. He stood up and rested his massive head gently against her knee, letting out a soft, happy whine.

Naomi knelt down, burying her hands in his thick brindle fur, whispering softly, "Who's a good boy?"

Belvin walked over, knelt down beside her on one knee, and handed her a glass of sparkling cider. He looked from Titan to Naomi, his dark eyes shining with an emotion he rarely showed anyone else.

"You know," Belvin said quietly, a rare, warm smile breaking across his face, "half the board members are still terrified that the dog is going to jump on them."

"Let them be," Naomi laughed softly, turning her head to meet Belvin’s gaze. "A little fear keeps everyone on their toes."

Belvin reached out, taking her hand in his, his fingers interlocking with hers. He slipped a small, elegant diamond ring onto her left ring finger—simple, understated, but holding more power and devotion than any crown in the world.

Naomi looked down at the ring, then up into Belvin’s eyes, her breath catching in her throat.

"Is this the new corporate policy?" she whispered teasingly.

"No," Belvin replied, his voice dropping into a soft, steady whisper that only she could hear over the murmurs of the gala. "This is lifelong tenure. With the option of forever."

Naomi smiled, leaning forward to rest her forehead gently against his.

Around them, the wealthiest and most powerful people in New York raised their crystal glasses in a silent toast, watching the king of Manhattan, his fierce protector, and the woman who had tamed them both.

And for the first time in their lives, the mafia boss and the tired waitress knew they had finally won the only war that mattered.
