Chapter 5 - THE AMBUSH ON THE TARMACA black helicopter, unmarked and silent, dropped out of the heavy morning fog above the runway, its skids whistling as it hovered fifty feet above the ground. A powerful searchlight stabbed downward, blinding the police officers and bathing the scene in an eerie, sterile white glow.
"Drop your weapons!" Victor commanded, his voice suddenly transforming into a military bark that brooked no argument.
Before the officers could react, the side door of the hovering chopper slid open. Two figures in heavy tactical gear dropped fast-ropes onto the concrete, landing with heavy thuds on either side of the baggage loader.
"Boss! We've got incoming from the terminal roof!" shouted one of the mercenaries, raising an assault rifle fitted with a thermal scope.
RAT-A-TAT-TAT-TAT!
Glass shattered across the terminal observation deck as heavy sniper fire chewed up the upper windows. Bullets sparked off the asphalt near the landing gear of the 737, kicking up dangerous shards of concrete.
"Get down!" the handler screamed, tackling Eli to the ground as crossfire erupted across the tarmac.
Apollo didn't panic. The German Shepherd planted himself squarely over Eli’s back, teeth bared at the shadows rushing out from behind the fuel tanks.
Victor Kane didn't flinch. He fired three rapid, calculated shots toward the sniper flash on the terminal roof, neutralizing the threat with terrifying precision. Then he grabbed Eli by the collar of his jacket, hauling the boy to his feet in one brutal motion.
"We're moving. Now," Victor shouted over the deafening roar of the helicopter engines.

"I'm not going with you!" Eli screamed, thrashing against his father's iron grip, tears streaming down his face. "You lied to me! You used me as bait!"
Victor stopped, turning to face his son. The helicopter wind whipped his dark coat around him like wings. "I didn't use you, Eli. I saved you. And if you don't get on that chopper right now, everyone you've ever loved, everyone who ever looked at you, is going to end up in a shallow grave."
