I stood on the second-floor balcony, wearing a tailored cream silk suit, the antique silver locket resting securely against my chest. Below me, the gardens were alive with blooming roses, and the distant hum of shipping operations from our newly recovered European ports echoed faintly in the breeze.

Footsteps approached softly behind me.

“The international shipping council just ratified the new trade treaties,” Vincent said, walking out onto the balcony. He handed me a crystal flute filled with sparkling champagne—not spilled in chaos this time, but raised in quiet celebration.

I took the glass, clinking it gently against his. “And the eastern European cells?”

“Fully integrated under our direct oversight,” Vincent replied, leaning against the stone balustrade beside me. He looked at me, a warm, genuine smile gracing his features. “You know, when you first walked into this house wearing a maid’s uniform and carrying a spilled tray of champagne, I never imagined you’d end up running half the syndicate by my side.”

“You thought I was just a clumsy peasant who didn't belong,” I teased, raising an eyebrow.

“Never,” Vincent laughed softly. “From the moment I saw you refuse to kneel for Vivian... I knew you were a Moretti.”
