Chapter 5 - THE FINAL PURGE

"Surround them!"
Chief Security Officer Miller’s voice bellowed through the tactical comms as twenty elite operatives descended upon the Russian mercenaries from all sides.
Viktor Petrov’s men froze, their weapons half-raised, caught in the blinding glare of the helicopter searchlights. They looked from the heavily armed Vale operatives to their boss, realizing in a single horrifying heartbeat that they had walked directly into a well-laid execution trap.
"Drop your weapons! Now!" Miller shouted, stepping forward with his assault rifle leveled directly at Viktor’s chest.
Viktor’s hands hovered near his holstered sidearm, his eyes darting frantically toward the edge of the cliff, then back at Marcus. A bead of sweat rolled down the Russian boss's temple.
"You're crazy, Marcus," Viktor spat, his voice trembling slightly despite his tough exterior. "If you kill me here, the entire Bratva council in Moscow will descend on your family like a plague of locusts. You can't kill us all."
Marcus slowly stepped around me, keeping me safely behind his shoulder as he walked toward Viktor with the slow, deliberate stride of an apex predator closing in on wounded prey.
"I'm not going to kill you, Viktor," Marcus said softly, stopping just a few feet away. "Killing you would be too quick. Too merciful."
Marcus raised his pistol—not aiming for Viktor's head, but deliberately squeezing the trigger.
BANG.
The bullet clipped the heel of Viktor’s Italian leather shoe, burying itself deep into the stone patio. Viktor flinched violently, letting out a sharp gasp.
"Federal authorities in three states have warrants for your arrest, your money laundering operations, and your human trafficking rings," Marcus continued, his voice cold and devoid of human emotion. "My legal team spent the last three weeks compiling every encrypted file, every offshore ledger, and every wire transfer linking your syndicate to international crime. By sunrise, the FBI, Interpol, and the federal marshals will have your entire organization dismantled, your accounts seized, and your capos locked in maximum-security black sites."
Viktor’s jaw went slack. "You... you handed our ledgers to the feds?"
"I cleaned house," Marcus corrected calmly. "And you were the last piece of trash left on the floor."
Marcus flicked his wrist. Miller and two tactical operatives rushed forward, slamming Viktor face-first onto the hood of his own black sedan, snapping heavy steel zip-ties around his wrists with ruthless efficiency.
Within minutes, the remaining Russian mercenaries were disarmed, zip-tied, and loaded into the back of the transport vans. The courtyard fell quiet once more, save for the gentle crashing of the ocean waves against the cliffs far below.
Marcus watched the transport vehicles roll down the driveway under military escort, then slowly turned around and walked back toward me.
The harsh, terrifying aura of the mob boss melted away, replaced once again by the deeply remorseful husband who had knelt in the dirt just minutes before.
He stopped a foot away from me, looking down with eyes full of uncertainty and hope.

"It's over, Elena," he whispered, his voice trembling slightly. "The war is finished. The empire is behind us. There are no more secrets, no more hidden rooms, no more enemies waiting in the dark."
I looked at him, the adrenaline slowly fading from my veins, leaving behind a profound, overwhelming sense of peace.
