Chapter 8 - The Emergency Board MeetingThe boardroom on the 50th floor of the Sterling Tower was packed to capacity. Every major shareholder, board member, and legal advisor sat in absolute silence around the massive quartz conference table.

At the head of the table sat Emma Sterling, flanked by her father Arthur—now looking stronger in a tailored bespoke suit—and Marcus.

“Before we vote on the restructuring of the corporate holdings,” Emma began, her voice echoing clearly through the vaulted room, “we need to address a final, unresolved conflict of interest.”

A murmur rippled through the crowd.

In the back row, Julian Thorne, senior managing partner and the longest-serving board member, adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses. He offered a polite, grandfatherly smile.

“My dear Emma,” Julian spoke up smoothly, “given the emotional turmoil you’ve endured this week with Nathan and Victor, perhaps it would be best to table further investigations until next month.”

Emma turned her gaze slowly toward Julian. A cold, knowing smile touched her lips.

“I’m afraid we can’t do that, Julian,” Emma replied softly. “Especially since the offshore account that funded the psychiatric facility at St. Jude’s for twenty-eight years wasn't tied to Victor... it was tied to your personal Swiss trust.”

The room erupted into absolute pandemonium. Board members stood up, shouting over one another. Julian’s face turned an ash-gray, his polite facade instantly cracking.

“That is a baseless, slanderous accusation!” Julian barked, slamming his palm onto the table. “Show me proof!”

Marcus calmly slid a pristine document across the quartz table toward Julian.

“Signed by your own hand, Julian, when you liquidated your shares in Thorne International back in 1998 to purchase the land rights for St. Jude’s,” Marcus said evenly. “You weren't just Victor’s silent partner. You were the architect who orchestrated the entire corporate takeover from the shadows.”

Julian stared at the document, his breath coming in shallow, ragged gasps. He looked around the room, realizing every exit was blocked by federal marshals.
