Chapter 8 - Echoes of JusticeThree days later, the courtroom was packed to absolute capacity once again. But this time, the heavy tension of fear and uncertainty had lifted, replaced by an atmosphere of profound anticipation and hard-won triumph.

The original defendant had taken a full plea deal, spilling every dark detail of the corporate conspiracy, implicating not only Marcus Vance but also the high-ranking executives who financed the entire operation. Federal agents had already executed simultaneous dawn raids across the city, arresting the corrupt corporate kingpins in their luxury penthouses.

At the front table sat little Ava.

She wore a bright yellow dress that matched the cheerful ribbon tied neatly in her hair. No longer shrinking away into herself, she sat upright, clutching her favorite yellow blanket in one hand while happily sketching with a brand-new box of crayons.

Beside her, resting comfortably on a plush folded blanket, lay Ranger.

When the judge entered the courtroom, everyone rose. The judge adjusted his glasses, looking down from his elevated bench with a warm, rare smile playing across his lips before turning his gaze toward the little girl in the front row.

"Before we officially close the record on this extraordinary proceeding," the judge's deep voice resonated clearly through the quiet room, "the court wishes to formally recognize the courage of our youngest and bravest eyewitness."

The entire gallery turned toward Ava, breaking out into a sustained, thunderous wave of applause. Reporters snapped photographs, and the prosecutor wiped a proud tear from her cheek.

Ava looked up, startled by the noise at first. Then, seeing everyone smiling warmly at her, a bright, beautiful smile bloomed across her face—the first true, unburdened smile anyone had seen in years.

She turned to Ranger, leaning down to whisper softly into his ear.

The old dog gave a gentle thump of his tail against the polished courtroom floor, as if acknowledging a job well done.
