Chapter 10 - THE FINAL SACRIFICEThe lab devolved into absolute chaos.

Guards fired blindly through the white mist, the bullets ricocheting uselessly off heavy steel equipment. Jack moved like a phantom through the facility he had worked in for ten years, taking down the guards one by one using the heavy equipment tools and his superior knowledge of the floor layout.
Inside the glass chamber, the technicians fled as the hazmat alarms shrieked.
Jack smashed the reinforced glass window with the forklift's steel boom, leaping inside the chamber. He sliced through Emma and Olivia’s leather restraints with a surgical scalpel.
"Jack!" Emma cried, throwing her arms around his neck. "You came back!"
"I told you," Jack whispered, kissing her forehead. "Watch what I do."
He grabbed both girls, wrapping them in sterile surgical blankets, and turned to exit toward the emergency medical elevator.
Standing in the broken glass doorway was Victor Sterling.
He held a heavy revolver, his arm steady, his eyes wide with unhinged fury.
"You ruined twenty years of research, Nurse Thompson," Victor hissed, pulling back the hammer of the gun. "You think you can take my future from me?"
"They aren't research," Jack said, stepping in front of the twins to completely shield them with his body. "They are Lisa’s daughters. They are my family."
Victor raised the gun, aiming directly for Jack’s head.
BANG.
A gunshot echoed through the enclosed concrete room.
Jack braced for the impact—but no bullet hit him.
Victor blinked in shock. He looked down at his own chest, where a dark crimson stain was rapidly spreading through his charcoal overcoat.
Behind Victor, standing in the doorway holding a smoking service weapon she had taken from a fallen guard, was a woman in a ragged, blood-stained jacket.
