CHAPTER 1 – The Prisoner Nobody Was Allowed to Touch

No one knew why the nation's most powerful courthouse had been locked down before sunrise.
Armed guards stood at every entrance.
Black SUVs lined the marble steps.
Even judges whispered to each other instead of speaking aloud.
At the very center of the grand hall sat a single prisoner.
His wrists were chained.
His face was bruised.
His clothes were stained with blood and dust, making him look like just another criminal waiting for a life sentence.
People walking past barely glanced at him.
To them, he was already forgotten.
Until...
The massive front doors opened.
Every conversation stopped.
Every guard straightened their backs.
Every lawyer lowered their eyes.
A woman dressed in a perfectly tailored black suit walked into the courtroom with calm, measured steps.
She wasn't a judge.
She wasn't a politician.
Yet everyone treated her as if she held more power than both combined.
Her name was Victoria Hale.
Officially, she was the government's chief investigator.
Unofficially...
She was the woman who had destroyed billionaires, imprisoned corrupt senators, and dismantled entire criminal empires without ever raising her voice.
People called her "The Ice Queen."
Because she never showed mercy.
Not once.
As Victoria approached the prisoner, reporters pressed against the security barriers, expecting another brutal interrogation.
Instead...
She stopped.
Looked directly into the prisoner's exhausted eyes.
And slowly...
She knelt beside him.
The courtroom gasped.
Even the guards exchanged confused glances.
This had never happened before.
Victoria reached into her pocket and gently pressed a small bandage against the cut on the man's cheek.
Her fingers trembled.
For the first time in years...
The Ice Queen looked... afraid.
The prisoner smiled weakly.
"You finally found me," he whispered.
Victoria's breathing stopped.
A single tear escaped before she could hide it.
No one in the room understood what they were witnessing.
Who was this man?
Why would the most feared investigator in the country kneel before someone accused of treason?
The chief prosecutor slammed his fist onto the table.
"Ms. Hale! Step away from the defendant immediately!"
She ignored him.
The prisoner slowly lifted his shackled hands.
Hidden beneath the rusted chains...
Was a faded silver ring.
Victoria stared at it in horror.
It was impossible.
She had buried that ring...
Ten years ago.
Along with the man she loved.
Her voice cracked for the first time.
"Tell me your name."
The prisoner looked into her eyes.
"My name doesn't matter anymore."
He leaned closer until only she could hear him.
Then he whispered five words that drained every drop of color from her face.
"The traitor is still alive."
Victoria froze.
Because only one person in the world could know what those words meant.
The man officially declared dead a decade earlier...
Had somehow returned.
And if he was telling the truth...
Everything the government believed about the biggest betrayal in modern history was a lie.
Behind them, hidden among the spectators, a silver-haired man quietly smiled.
He pulled out his phone.
"Phase One is complete," he whispered.
"She remembers him."
The call disconnected.
Neither Victoria nor the prisoner realized...
The real trial had not even begun.
May you like
And before the day was over...
Someone inside that courtroom would be murdered.
