Chapter 6 - THE FEDERAL RAIDThe lead investigator scanned the ballroom, his eyes locking onto Arthur Sterling and my father standing on the stage.

He flashed a gold federal badge.

"Richard Vale and Arthur Sterling?" the investigator called out, his voice sharp and authoritative.

Richard whimpered, his knees finally buckling as he collapsed backward against the velvet curtain, sliding down until he sat pathetically on the floor.

Arthur tried to make a break for the side service exit, but two marshals intercepted him instantly, grabbing his arms and forcing him against the mahogany wall with a dull thud.

"You are being placed under federal arrest for corporate espionage, unauthorized dissemination of classified military logistics, wire fraud, and conspiracy," the lead investigator stated, pulling a pair of steel handcuffs from his belt.

As the cold steel clicked around Arthur’s wrists, the three-million-dollar check slipped from my fingers, fluttering lazily down to land on top of the shattered whiskey glass at my feet.

The investigator walked up the steps of the stage, stopping in front of me. He looked down at the data-drive in my hand, then up at my scarred face.

"Captain Vale," the investigator said, nodding respectfully. "We received your transmission drop thirty minutes ago. The digital audit trail is complete. The network is compromised from top to bottom."

"Good," I replied, handing him the encrypted drive. "Make sure you check the offshore routing numbers tied to the foundation. Every cent of that three million belongs in the federal treasury now."
