By the next morning, the headlines were savage. “BILLIONAIRE’S SECRET LIFE: FORSAKEN WIFE AND CHILD FOUND IN SLUMS.”
His board of directors, led by the ruthless CEO of a rival firm, Julian Vane, saw an opportunity. They viewed the ‘scandal’ as a liability.
Blake was in a hospital boardroom, arguing for the immediate release of funds to fly in a specialist from Switzerland, when his phone rang. It was Vane.
“Enjoying the press, Blake?” Vane’s voice dripped with malice. “The board is holding an emergency vote. They’re claiming your ‘sudden’ family is a distraction, a moral failure that makes you unfit to represent the company. You’re being ousted by noon.”

Blake laughed. It was a cold, sharp sound. “Julian, you’ve been skimming from the European merger accounts for three years. I have every transaction, every offshore transfer, and the signed affidavit from your personal assistant. If you think I’m going down alone, you’ve forgotten who taught you how to play this game.”
The line went dead. Blake didn't care about the company anymore. He walked out of the boardroom, leaving his legacy behind to save his life.
