Chapter 14 - Enemy of My Enemy

Forty-eight hours later, I sat in a secluded corner of a suburban diner. Sitting across from me was Natalie Brooks.
She looked nothing like the polished, sharp woman who had stood in my kitchen three months ago demanding respect. Her hair was pulled back in a messy ponytail, she wore no makeup, and a thick black electronic monitoring bracelet was clamped around her left ankle.
"I knew you'd find the NDA eventually," Natalie said, her voice shaking as she stirred her black coffee. "Arthur told me you were just a brainless socialite who lived off your father's trust fund."
"Arthur lies to everyone," I said coldly. "Including you."
Natalie let out a dry, bitter laugh. "Tell me about it. He promised me half a million dollars and a corporate directorship in exchange for setting Daniel up. He said Daniel was an idiot who would take the bait within a month. He was right about Daniel—your ex-husband practically begged me to take his money."
"Where are the audio files, Natalie?" I demanded, cutting through her excuses.
She reached into her purse and pulled out an encrypted flash drive, placing it gently on the table between us.
"Every conversation I had with Arthur," Natalie whispered. "He recorded them to blackmail me, but I recorded him back. He explicitly orders me to push Daniel into transferring the stolen corporate code into Vance Holding LLC. He wanted the paper trail to lead directly to Daniel's hands—and your bank accounts."
I took the drive and slid it into my pocket.

"Why are you giving this to me?" I asked.
Natalie looked at her ankle monitor, a tear tracing through the dust on her cheek. "Because Arthur ruined my life, and Daniel was too weak to stop him. You're the only one in this whole disgusting game who actually knows how to finish a fight."
