CHAPTER 4 — THE BILLIONAIRE MADE A DECISION THAT SHOCKED THE ENTIRE HOSPITAL

Nobody dared celebrate.

Not even when the fetal heart monitor climbed back above one hundred beats per minute.

One hundred...

One hundred six...

One hundred twelve...

Every person in Room 402 knew exactly how fragile that improvement was.

One wrong decision...

One delayed reaction...

One unexpected complication...

And everything could collapse again.

Dr. Fernando Cárdenas kept his eyes fixed on the monitors.

"Maintain continuous ultrasound."

"Watch the cord."

"Prepare the operating room."

"But don't move until I give the order."

For the first time in more than forty hours...

His voice no longer carried arrogance.

Only determination.

Meanwhile, outside the delivery room...

Rosalba quietly returned to her mop.

She dipped it into the bucket as though nothing extraordinary had happened.

Passing visitors barely glanced at her.

A wealthy businessman walked around her cart without saying excuse me.

A nurse rushed by carrying medication.

Life in the hallway continued as if history wasn't unfolding only a few feet away.

Rosalba preferred it that way.

She had never wanted attention.

She had only wanted a mother and child to have another chance.

Suddenly...

The delivery room door opened.

Alejandro stepped outside.

His eyes were red from exhaustion.

For several seconds, he simply stared at Rosalba.

"You were right."

She lowered her head.

"I only asked them to look again."

"You gave them something we couldn't buy."

Alejandro's voice trembled.

"Hope."

Before Rosalba could answer, Doña Victoria stormed into the hallway.

Her face burned with anger.

"This is ridiculous!"

She pointed directly at Rosalba.

"You're manipulating my son!"

"You filled his head with stories while real doctors are trying to work!"

Several hospital employees stopped walking.

The shouting echoed through the corridor.

Rosalba remained calm.

"I never asked anyone to believe me."

"I only asked them to listen."

Victoria laughed bitterly.

"Listen?"

"You're a janitor."

"You scrub floors."

"My family built companies worth billions."

"What could someone like you possibly teach people educated at Harvard?"

The hallway became painfully quiet.

Everyone expected Rosalba to argue.

Instead...

She gently picked up her worn cleaning gloves.

"My mother taught me something many years ago."

Victoria rolled her eyes.

"I'm not interested."

Rosalba continued anyway.

"She said that uniforms change..."

"But compassion doesn't."

"You wear diamonds."

"I wear rubber gloves."

"When someone is suffering..."

"Neither one matters."

Several nurses lowered their heads.

One quietly wiped away tears.

Even the security guard looked uncomfortable.

Alejandro slowly turned toward his mother.

"Apologize."

Victoria stared at him in disbelief.

"What?"

"I said..."

"Apologize."

She laughed.

"To her?"

"Absolutely not."

Alejandro's voice became colder than anyone had ever heard.

"My wife is fighting for her life."

"My daughter is fighting for hers."

"And the only person who remembered to see hope instead of pride..."

"...was the woman you just insulted."

Victoria's lips trembled.

She had never heard her son speak to her that way.

Before anyone could react...

The delivery room doors burst open again.

Dr. Mateo hurried into the hallway.

"We need you."

He wasn't looking at Alejandro.

Or Victoria.

He was looking directly at Rosalba.

Every eye in the corridor turned toward her.

Dr. Cárdenas himself appeared behind Mateo.

The same physician who had demanded security remove her less than thirty minutes earlier.

His expression was completely different now.

"Mrs. Hernández..."

He paused.

Swallowing his pride.

"I owe you an apology."

The hallway fell silent.

"I judged you before listening."

"I was wrong."

Rosalba smiled softly.

"You were trying to save your patient."

"So was I."

Dr. Cárdenas nodded gratefully.

"There is something I need."

Rosalba looked surprised.

"I need you to tell us everything you observed."

"Every detail."

"Not because you are replacing us..."

He looked around at the entire medical team standing behind him.

"But because good medicine begins by listening."

Even Doña Victoria couldn't believe what she was hearing.

The chief of obstetrics...

One of the country's most respected physicians...

Was publicly asking advice from the hospital janitor.

Alejandro stepped beside Rosalba.

"I'll make sure no one ever disrespects you again."

She smiled sadly.

"Respect shouldn't come because someone rich defends you."

"It should come because every person deserves it."

Those words spread through the hallway like a whisper.

Several hospital employees exchanged emotional glances.

Some had worked beside Rosalba for years.

None had ever heard her speak so openly.

Inside Room 402...

Another contraction began.

This time...

Something changed.

Dr. Moreno looked at the monitor.

"The baby is tolerating this one much better."

A nurse checked Sofía.

"She's responding."

Another contraction followed.

Then another.

The baby's heartbeat remained stable.

Hope grew stronger with every passing minute.

No one dared speak too soon.

Until suddenly...

Dr. Moreno's eyes widened.

"I can see the head."

The room froze.

After forty-one hours of despair...

The baby had finally begun descending.

Outside...

Rosalba quietly closed her eyes and whispered a prayer in Zapotec, the language her grandmother had taught her as a little girl.

She didn't ask for a miracle.

Only for strength.

Because she knew the hardest moment of all...

May you like

Was still about to begin.

End of Chapter 4...
