Chapter 2: The Men Who Came for the Boy

The three men in black suits did not run.

They walked.

Slowly.

Confidently.

Like they already knew no one in that ballroom was brave enough to stop them.

Alexander stepped in front of the little boy.

"Who are you?"

The tallest man smiled.

"Mr. Blackwood, this is a private family matter."

Alexander's jaw tightened.

"Then why is a terrified child hiding behind me?"

The man looked down at the boy.

"Because his mother taught him to lie."

The boy grabbed Alexander's jacket with both hands.

"Don't let them take me..."

Victoria suddenly stepped forward.

Her voice was sharp.

"Alex, this is insane. Security should remove all of them."

But Alexander didn't move.

He stared at the necklace in the boy's hand.

Emily's necklace.

Emily's photo.

Emily's warning.

Something inside him broke open.

"What is your name?" Alexander asked softly.

The boy swallowed.

"Noah."

Alexander froze.

That was the name Emily had once chosen for their future son.

The room disappeared around him.

Only the child remained.

Noah looked up, trembling.

"My mom said you didn't leave us."

"She said someone made you believe we were dead."

A wave of whispers exploded across the ballroom.

Victoria's face went white.

Then angry.

"That's impossible."

The man in black stepped closer.

"Hand over the boy, Mr. Blackwood."

Alexander slowly turned.

"No."

The man's smile vanished.

"You're making a mistake."

Alexander leaned down and picked Noah up into his arms.

For one second...

The billionaire and the boy looked at each other like strangers.

Then Noah whispered,

"Dad?"

Alexander's eyes filled with tears.

He didn't know if it was true.

He didn't know who was lying.

But the moment that little voice called him Dad...

He knew one thing.

He would burn the entire world before letting anyone take that child.

Then the ballroom screens suddenly flickered.

The wedding slideshow disappeared.

A video appeared instead.

Emily.

Alive.

Weak.

Sitting in a dark room.

Her voice shook as she spoke.

"Alexander... if you're watching this, they found me."

The guests gasped.

Alexander couldn't breathe.

Emily looked straight into the camera.

"Victoria's family lied to you. They told you I ran away. They told me you sold me out."

Victoria screamed,

"Turn it off!"

But the video kept playing.

Emily's final words echoed through the ballroom.

"And Alex... Noah is your son."

Alexander turned slowly toward Victoria.

Her perfect bridal smile was gone.

And behind her eyes...

He finally saw the truth.

May you like

She had known.

All along.
