Chapter 4: The $100 Million Secret

The ballroom had become a battlefield.

Wedding guests hid beneath tables.

Crystal glasses shattered across the marble floor.

Federal agents spread out in perfect formation, their weapons pointed toward every exit.

Alexander tightened his grip around Noah.

"Nobody touches my son."

The lead FBI agent raised one hand.

"We're not your enemies."

Before anyone could answer—

BANG!

A sniper's bullet ripped through the ballroom window.

The chandelier exploded.

Thousands of crystal shards rained down like deadly diamonds.

People screamed.

Agents shoved guests to the ground.

"SNIPER!"

Another shot.

The bullet narrowly missed Alexander's head before burying itself into a marble pillar.

Noah cried out.

"They found us..."

Alexander grabbed the boy and threw both of them behind the wedding altar.

The FBI returned fire toward the rooftop across the street.

Outside...

Black SUVs accelerated away into the night.

The attack had lasted less than fifteen seconds.

But its message was clear.

Someone wanted Noah dead.

The lead agent crawled beside Alexander.

"My name is Agent Daniel Ross."

"We've been looking for Noah for almost four years."

Alexander stared at him.

"Who wants to kill a six-year-old?"

Ross hesitated.

Then answered quietly.

"Not because of who he is."

"Because of what he owns."

Alexander frowned.

"What could a child possibly own?"

Ross looked directly into Noah's frightened eyes.

"Tell him."

Noah slowly reached inside his jacket.

Everyone expected another photograph.

Another letter.

Instead...

He removed a tiny silver key hanging on a worn leather string.

It looked ordinary.

Almost worthless.

Alexander blinked.

"A key?"

Ross nodded.

"Not just any key."

"It opens Deposit Box 717 inside Blackstone National Bank."

Alexander had never heard of it.

"So?"

Ross swallowed.

"That deposit box has remained unopened for thirty-one years."

"It belongs to your grandfather."

Alexander shook his head.

"My grandfather died."

Ross answered,

"That's what the world was supposed to believe."

Silence.

Then Ross opened a classified file.

Inside was a photograph.

An old man with silver hair.

Standing beside two U.S. presidents.

Another picture showed him shaking hands with kings.

Another with Nobel Prize winners.

Alexander's breathing stopped.

The face...

Looked exactly like his own.

"His name," Ross whispered,

"was Edward Blackwood."

"He wasn't just a billionaire."

"He secretly controlled one of the largest private investment empires in history."

Alexander stared in disbelief.

"My father told me Grandpa lost everything."

Ross laughed bitterly.

"That's the lie someone paid billions to protect."

Victoria slowly backed away.

Richard Ashford did not.

Instead...

He smiled.

Finally.

"The FBI told you half the story."

Every weapon in the room turned toward him.

Richard slowly removed his white gloves.

His hands were covered in old burn scars.

"You think this is about money?"

"No."

"It's about what's inside that vault."

Alexander glared.

"What's inside?"

Richard answered calmly.

"A list."

"A list powerful enough to destroy governments."

The room fell silent.

Ross shouted,

"Don't listen to him!"

But Richard continued.

"Politicians."

"Judges."

"Billionaires."

"Organized crime."

"Every secret payment..."

"Every hidden account..."

"Every betrayal over the last thirty years."

Alexander's pulse thundered.

"No..."

Richard smiled wider.

"Edward Blackwood collected insurance."

"If anyone betrayed him..."

"They disappeared."

Victoria stared at her father in horror.

"You never told me any of this..."

Richard looked at her with cold eyes.

"I never trusted you enough."

For the first time in her life...

Victoria realized she had only been another pawn.

Suddenly—

Noah tugged on Alexander's sleeve.

"Dad..."

Alexander looked down.

"What is it?"

The little boy pointed toward one of the FBI agents.

"The man behind you..."

"...he isn't FBI."

Ross spun around.

Too late.

The "agent" pulled a suppressed pistol from beneath his jacket.

POP!

One shot.

Agent Ross collapsed instantly.

The fake agent ripped off his FBI badge.

Smiled.

Then looked directly at Noah.

"I've finally found the last Blackwood."

He raised the gun again.

Alexander stepped in front of his son without hesitation.

The gunman grinned.

"You'd really die for him?"

Alexander answered without blinking.

"If that's what it takes."

The assassin lowered the weapon...

Not because he had changed his mind—

But because someone else had already pulled the trigger.

BANG!

The assassin fell forward.

A single bullet hole burned through his forehead.

Everyone turned toward the ballroom entrance.

A woman stood there wearing a black trench coat.

Long brown hair.

Tired blue eyes.

Covered in blood.

She lowered the smoking sniper rifle.

Then whispered the words Alexander had dreamed of hearing for seven endless years.

"Alex... I came back for our son."

Emily was alive.

End of Chapter 4...
