Chapter 3 — “The Biker Walked Into the Law Office With the Forged Papers… Five Minutes Later, Every Employee Stopped Smiling”

The next morning, Maple Ridge woke up to gossip.

By breakfast, everyone had heard the story.

"Four bikers gave money to a homeless woman."

Some called them heroes.

Others insisted it was a publicity stunt.

But Ryder wasn't interested in public opinion.

He wanted one thing.

The truth.

Emily and Mira spent the night at a local church shelter after Ryder convinced them it was safer than sleeping outside.

The Iron Guardians paid for fresh clothes, hot meals, and a private room.

It was the first real bed Mira had slept in for nearly three months.

Before falling asleep, she hugged her pink bicycle tighter than her favorite stuffed rabbit.

She still couldn't believe she hadn't had to sell it.

Meanwhile, Ryder never slept.

The property transfer papers lay across the motel room table.

Tank leaned against the wall.

Viper examined every page carefully.

Mason searched public property records on his laptop.

After nearly an hour of silence, Mason suddenly froze.

"...Guys."

Everyone looked up.

"The document says Emily transferred ownership voluntarily."

"So?" Tank asked.

"So according to county records..."

He slowly turned the screen around.

"...the house was sold just forty-eight hours later."

Ryder narrowed his eyes.

"To who?"

Mason clicked once more.

The room became silent.

"Langford Property Holdings."

Tank frowned.

"That's Richard Langford's company."

"So the lawyer who handled the paperwork..."

"...ended up owning the house himself," Ryder finished.

Nobody spoke.

Viper quietly folded the forged document.

"I've seen corruption before."

"But this..."

"This was planned."

At nine-thirty that morning...

Four motorcycles stopped in front of the tallest office building in Maple Ridge.

People inside the glass lobby immediately noticed them.

Receptionists exchanged nervous looks.

Lawyers peeked through office windows.

Clients whispered.

The Iron Guardians calmly removed their helmets.

No shouting.

No threats.

No anger.

Just purpose.

The receptionist forced a smile.

"May I help you?"

Ryder placed the folded documents on the marble counter.

"We're here to see Richard Langford."

"Do you have an appointment?"

"No."

"I'm afraid Mr. Langford is very busy."

"I imagine he is."

The receptionist reached for the phone.

Before she could press a button, Ryder calmly opened the top page.

The large title was impossible to miss.

NOTICE OF PROPERTY TRANSFER

Every color drained from her face.

She recognized it instantly.

Because she had typed it herself.

Her hands began trembling.

"I..."

"I'll see if he's available."

"No need."

A deep voice echoed from the hallway.

"I'll speak with them."

Richard Langford appeared wearing a navy suit worth more than most families earned in a month.

Perfect tie.

Perfect smile.

Perfect reputation.

He extended his hand confidently.

"Gentlemen."

"I'm Richard Langford."

"What seems to be the problem?"

Ryder didn't shake his hand.

Instead, he quietly asked,

"Do you remember Emily Carter?"

Richard's smile didn't disappear.

It simply became smaller.

"I'm sorry."

"I meet hundreds of clients every year."

Ryder slid the document across the counter.

"You handled her case."

Richard barely glanced down.

"I'd have to review our records."

"You won't need to."

Ryder pointed at the signature.

"Emily says it's fake."

Richard laughed.

Actually laughed.

"A homeless woman accused a respected attorney?"

"I'm not particularly worried."

Several employees smiled nervously.

That confidence lasted exactly five seconds.

Because Viper quietly placed another sheet of paper beside the first.

A hospital record.

Richard blinked.

His smile faded.

Emily had been admitted to the emergency room...

At exactly the same time the legal documents claimed she had been sitting in his office signing away her home.

The dates matched perfectly.

The timestamps matched perfectly.

It was impossible.

Richard stared at the paperwork.

Then at Ryder.

Then back again.

"Where did you get these?"

Ryder ignored the question.

"You certified a signature from someone who wasn't even there."

Silence.

Employees stopped pretending to work.

Secretaries leaned around office doors.

Clients lowered their newspapers.

Nobody moved.

Richard forced another smile.

"This is obviously a misunderstanding."

"I'm sure it can be cleared up."

Tank finally spoke.

His deep voice echoed across the lobby.

"Then call the police."

Richard looked at him.

"What?"

"If it's a misunderstanding..."

Tank folded his arms.

"...call them."

Nobody breathed.

Richard didn't reach for the phone.

Instead...

Sweat formed beneath his collar.

Across town...

Emily sat outside the shelter watching Mira color butterflies with donated crayons.

For the first time in months...

Her daughter laughed.

A volunteer approached carrying a small envelope.

"This was left for you."

Emily frowned.

"There wasn't a name."

Inside was a single photograph.

It showed Emily standing in front of her old house.

But she wasn't alone.

Standing beside Richard Langford...

Was another man.

A man she hadn't seen in over two years.

The man who had disappeared the same week she lost everything.

Her former fiancé.

Daniel Brooks.

On the back of the photograph, someone had written five chilling words in black ink.

"He betrayed you first."

Emily's hands began shaking uncontrollably.

"No..."

"It can't be..."

Mira looked up.

"Mommy?"

Emily dropped the photograph.

Because the man she had mourned...

The man she believed had abandoned her...

Had apparently been standing beside the lawyer who stole her home.

May you like

And if the photograph was real...

Everything she believed about the last two years was a lie.
